International Vaccine Summit, organized by School of Public Health, Manipal University, concluded today. It was a first of its kind event, held over 2 days, and explored the field of Vaccinology like never before.
The resource personnel for the day included Dr. Anil Dutta (MD, Vice President Clinical and Medical (EM), R&D Dept., GSK, Belgium); Dr. Alberta Di Pasquale (MD, PhD Immunology, GSK, Belgium); Dr. Nadia Meyer (Epidemiology and Health Economics Team,GSK, Belgium); Dr. Camelia Marcos (Head of Evidence Based Medicine and Vaccines R&D, GSK, Belgium). The topics covered today were - Principles of disease eradication (Polio experience including India), Assessing vaccines in clinical trials and observational studies, Economic evaluation of vaccines, Life course immunization. Dr. Dutta also delivered a lecture on Pandemic preparedness, Newer innovations and the future of vaccine technology.
Dr Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar Manipal University was the Chief Guest for the event. Sir spoke about the importance of vaccinations in society and lauded the efforts taken by Dr. Sanjay Pattanshetty and the entire team of SOPH for their contributions in community services and public health programmes. Dr. Satishchandra (Surveillance Medical Office, WHO Mangalore) was the Guest of Honour and shared his experiences on operational challenges in immunisation campaigns. Dr. Shafiq from GSK, Mumbai office was also present at the event and interacted with the participants and offered insights on multiple topics during Q&A sessions.
