The Department of Pharmaceutics, Vivekanand Education Society’s College of Pharmacy (Autonomous), under the aegis of the IQAC, successfully organized the 10th Annual Lecture Series – Special International Edition on “Objective Versus Purposeful Dissolution Testing: A Paradigm Shift” on Friday, August 7, 2026. The distinguished lecture was delivered by Prof. Umesh Banakar, President, Banakar Consulting Services, USA, an internationally recognized expert in pharmaceutical sciences and dissolution testing.

Prof. Banakar is the author of the acclaimed reference book, Pharmaceutical Dissolution Testing, Bioavailability, and Bioequivalence: Science, Applications, and Beyond, published by John Wiley & Sons. The 560-page comprehensive reference explores the established and emerging roles of dissolution testing in pharmaceutical drug development, along with bioavailability, bioequivalence, solubility, dissolution, permeability, mathematical models, biorelevant dissolution testing, IVIVC, and regulatory expectations.

During the session, Prof. Banakar emphasized the need to move beyond viewing dissolution testing merely as a routine regulatory exercise and adopt a purpose-driven and scientifically meaningful approach. He highlighted how purposeful dissolution testing can contribute to formulation development, product understanding, quality assurance, and informed regulatory decision-making.

The session conducted in hybrid mode was attended by B.Pharm, M.Pharm and Ph.D. students, Faculty Members, and Industry Professionals, providing a valuable platform for academic interaction and knowledge exchange.
The programme was conducted under the able leadership of Dr. Supriya Shidhaye, Principal, VESCOP, and coordinated by Dr. Rajashree Hirlekar, Head, Department of Pharmaceutics, with the dedicated support of the faculty members and M.Pharm students of the Department of Pharmaceutics.

From Lab to Market: Global Experts Decode the Regulatory Journey of Drug Development at VESCOP

Mumbai, August 4, 2026: Vivekanand Education Society's College of Pharmacy (Autonomous), Mumbai, in collaboration with *Hanura Therapeutics*, *H.A.B.I.T. Foundation*, and *AIPFC (Association IP Facilitation Centre)*, successfully organized an *International Workshop on "Regulatory Milestones in Drug Development."* The workshop brought together renowned experts from industry, regulatory agencies, and the intellectual property ecosystem to provide participants with comprehensive insights into the regulatory landscape governing modern drug development.

The workshop featured an eminent panel of experts comprising *Dr. Manoj Jadhav (CEO, Isha Therapeutics, New Jersey, USA), Dr. Nitin Mali (Pharma Industry Expert, Mumbai), Dr. Sripathi Rao Kulkarni (Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR Innovation Complex, Mumbai), Mr. Nilesh Patil (Assistant Controller, Indian Patent Office), and Mr. D. R. Gahane (Former Joint Commissioner, FDA)*. The insightful panel discussion, moderated by *Dr. Anand Chintakrindi (Associate Professor, VESCOP)*, explored the complete journey of a drug candidate—from laboratory discovery and research translation to clinical development, regulatory approval, patent protection, and commercialization. The experts also highlighted the differences between the regulatory frameworks of India and the United States, emphasizing the importance of robust regulatory systems in ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of medicines.

Adding a practical dimension to the workshop, *Dr. Manoj Jadhav* conducted an interactive hands-on case study activity, enabling participants to apply the concepts and regulatory principles discussed during the sessions to real-world drug development scenarios. The activity received enthusiastic participation and reinforced the workshop's focus on experiential learning.

The workshop concluded on a highly engaging note, leaving participants with a deeper understanding of the regulatory framework, innovation pathways, and the collaborative efforts required to successfully bring a drug from the laboratory to the market.

The programme was conducted under the patronage of *Dr. Prakash Lulla, Treasurer, VES (Managing Trustee, VESCOP)* and leadership of *Dr. Supriya Shidhaye, Principal, VESCOP*, with support from *Mr. Vijay Shivpuje, Hanura Therapeutics*, and was coordinated by *Dr. Anand Chintakrindi (Associate Professor, VESCOP), Dr. Sonali Munj (Assistant Professor, VESCOP)*, and *Dr. Shivali Tank (Senior Scientist, Isha Therapeutics)*, whose dedicated efforts ensured the successful ex*****on of the event.
