The Vidarbha Chapter of the VNIT Nagpur Alumni Association commemorated World Orphans Day on 25th and 26th April 2026 at the VNIT Campus, organizing a meaningful and engaging program for 50 orphaned children from two orphanages in Nagpur. The event included a night camp at the Viswa Life Skill Centre (VLSC), aimed at creating a joyful and memorable experience for the children.
The children arrived on campus at 4:00 PM and were warmly welcomed with refreshments. This was followed by a series of fun-filled and interactive activities conducted by Outward Bound Bharat, which kept the children actively engaged.
The formal program commenced at 7:30 PM with an address by Shri Vivek Deshpande, Chairman of the VNIT Nagpur Alumni Association. The evening featured cultural performances by the children, showcasing their talents and enthusiasm. Representatives from both participating orphanages also shared brief insights about their institutions and the children.
Dr. Kishore Bhurchandi, Dean – International & Alumni Affairs, appreciated the initiative undertaken by the Alumni Association and expressed his support through his remarks during the event. The celebration continued with cake cutting, followed by music and dance, which brought immense joy to the children.
As a gesture of goodwill, the VNIT Nagpur Alumni Association extended donations to both orphanages and distributed goodie bags to all the children. Several alumni also contributed generously by donating ration and grocery items, books, clothing, and games.
The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by dinner for all attendees.
On the morning of 26th April, the Alumni Association organized a drawing session for the children, along with opportunities for personal interaction. The event concluded with a warm send-off after breakfast, leaving behind cherished memories for the children and participants alike.

Eastern Region Chapter Meet @ Kolkata
The Eastern Region Chapter Meet held on 21st March 2026 at the iconic HHI Kolkata marked an energetic milestone as we proudly completed the 9th Chapter Meet of FY 2025–26. This first-ever Eastern Chapter gathering brought together alumni from West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, and the North East, creating a vibrant platform of connection and collaboration. The event began with a warm floral welcome to dignitaries—Dr. Prem Lal Patel, Director VNIT; Dr. K. C. Bhurchandi, Dean International & Alumni Affairs; Dr. Sunil S. Bhat, Associate Dean Alumni Affairs; and Joginder Singh Sond, Executive Director VNITAA. The Director shared insightful vision on VNIT’s future and emphasized alumni contribution in industry collaboration, Chairs, and mentorship. Dr. Bhurchandi highlighted global outreach and industry readiness, while Dr. Bhat showcased campus facilities and new M.Tech programs. Joginder Singh Sond spoke about Eastern Chapter contributions, Gurudakshina projects, and the power of alumni networking.

VNIT AA takes pride to announce that its Alumna Smt. Rashmi Urdhwareshe 1981-Electrical has been named as the “Most Influential Women 2026” by BW Auto World.
Starting her career as a trainee engineer in the early 1980s she has been the first woman Director of Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), her path reflects a pioneering presence in one of the country’s most technology-driven industries.
Today, as a respected industry veteran and Independent Director on the boards of multiple companies, she continues to influence conversations around sustainable mobility, innovation and leadership.
VNIT AA congratulates Smt. Rashmi Urdhwareshe on her achievements and wishes her a fulfilling success in the years to come.
