A Viva Voce examination was successfully conducted for the M. Com IV Semester students regarding their internship work. The examination was conducted by Professor Abhijeet Dutta, Head of the Department of Commerce, Sikkim University, who served as the External Examiner.

Professor Dutta was formally received and welcomed by Dr. Sanjaya Sir, Vice Principal, Dr. Dewan Rai, Head of the Department of Commerce, along with the faculty members of the Department of Commerce, SGC Namchi.

Following the completion of the Viva Voce, Professor Dutta interacted with the students and shared valuable insights and guidance. He encouraged the students and wished them success in their future academic and professional endeavours.

Report on Plantation and Cleanliness Drive on the Occasion of World Environment Day 2026

Date: 5th June 2026
Venue: SGC, Namchi

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, the Department of Commerce, SGC Namchi, organized a Plantation and Cleanliness Drive under the guidance of Dr. Dewan Rai, HoD and Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce. The programme aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage active participation in environmental conservation.

The programme was attended by faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students of B. Com II, IV & VI Semester and M. Com II & IV Semester. Students brought various flowering and fruit-bearing saplings, which were planted in designated areas of the college campus. Nameplates were placed near the saplings to encourage responsibility and care for the plants.

As part of the initiative, the Department of Forest distributed flowering and fruit-bearing saplings to different departments of the college. A cleanliness drive was also conducted, during which participants actively cleaned the campus and its surroundings.

The programme successfully promoted environmental consciousness, cleanliness, and collective responsibility among students and staff. The Department of Commerce expresses its sincere gratitude to all participants for contributing to the success of the programme.

Report on NET Aspirants Counselling Session

A counselling session for NET applicants and aspirants was organized by the Career Counselling Committee on 28th May 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Seminar Hall, Science Block, SGC Namchi. The programme was attended by students pursuing Master’s Degree programmes from different departments of the college.

Mr. Narayan Chettri, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, served as the resource person for the session. He provided valuable guidance regarding the UGC NET examination, including eligibility criteria, preparation strategies, examination pattern, subject selection, and career opportunities after qualifying NET.

The session proved to be highly informative and beneficial for the students, as it helped clarify various doubts and motivated aspiring candidates to prepare seriously for the examination. The interactive session witnessed active participation from the students.

Overall, the programme was successfully conducted and served as a useful platform for students aspiring to pursue academic and research careers.

Entrepreneurial Activity Session | 26th May 2026

Under the initiative of Mr. Denzong Shankar, an interactive entrepreneurial activity session was conducted for the students. A total of 155 students were divided into 11 groups consisting of around 10 -12 members each.

Each group was assigned the task of developing an entrepreneurial idea aimed at addressing current issues faced by society. The activity witnessed enthusiastic participation, creativity, and innovative thinking from all the groups.
The ideas presented by the students were evaluated by the faculty members along with Mrs. Smita Rai and Mr. Denzong Shankar, who acted as the judges for the session. Among all the participating groups, Group 11 was awarded the Best Idea Award for their outstanding and innovative concept.

The Department of Commerce congratulates the winning group and appreciates the active participation shown by all the students. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Denzong Shankar and Mrs. Smita Rai for initiating such a meaningful, engaging, and productive activity for the students.

Mrs. Smita Rai, popularly known as the “Candle Lady” of Sikkim,” is one of the most inspiring women entrepreneurs of the state. She has been featured in the CBSE Class XII Business Studies textbook for her remarkable entrepreneurial journey.

Her achievements include:
Recipient of the Best Women Entrepreneur Award (2015–2016) in New Delhi by Srimanta Sankar Mission, Guwahati
Recipient of the Sikkim Prasansa Patra Samman 2018 by the Government of Sikkim
