“The process of building a frame — adding and subtracting elements, making small adjustments — is all about attention to detail. Something we’ve been learning here for a long time, but the Architecture Specialisation has polished it further. A one-inch difference in a frame might seem insignificant, but the difference it makes to the final image is humongous. It’s teaching me how to truly balance a shot.
As for our interactions with Mohsin Taha — he is very sorted, very calm, and a great teacher. His perspective and his approach to lighting techniques are something I have a lot to learn from.”

What mindset should a young photographer bring to their craft in the age of AI? We asked Subodh Poddar.
Creative Director, filmmaker, sculptor (in ceramics and bronze) and painter(including live dance performances) — Subodh brings a rare breadth of creative vision to everything he does. Over the years, he has been a valued part of the LLA journey, offering sage advice on the art of thinking visually.

A group of students from Batch 24 had the opportunity to document tribal food from the Nilgiris, and here’s what one of them had to say about the experience.
“The photographs here explore everyday cooking in the villages of the Nilgiris — where food goes beyond enclosed kitchens, extending into shared spaces and shaping daily lives.
Documenting this way of life was eye-opening. It stood in sharp contrast to the structure of city living and revealed how deeply food, space, and community are connected. The warmth and simplicity of the people made the experience even more memorable.
I’m grateful to have been part of this project — to travel and learn under the guidance of Iqbal Sir, whose observations helped shape how I saw and photographed. I also thank Anuradha Ma’am for her trust and support throughout the journey.” - Manvi Modi

The campus, the environment, the people — these are essential parts of the LLA experience, and visiting the campus gives applicants and parents a much clearer sense of what to expect.

During the latest round of in-person interviews, we spoke with Mr. Ashwin, father of Sachit, a Batch 26 applicant. After a campus tour and a chance to meet the staff and founders, here is what Mr. Ashwin had to say.

Admissions are currently open for courses starting August 2026 on a first-come-first-served basis. Once seats are filled, applications will be closed. Link in bio to learn more about the courses offered.

The LLA course is a year of packed schedules, assignments, reshoots, and new challenges every single day. But one thing that always rejuvenates the student is the beauty of the Nilgiris.
“Oh look at those clouds catching the last light.”
“Look at that sun halo!”
“Can you hear a waterfall?”
“I think tomorrow’s sunrise is going to be great. Let’s go to Kodanad.”
“Oh, Is that Jupiter rising?!”
That sense of awe about nature and natural light — we think it’s the lifeblood of every photographer. The thing that started it all, and the thing that keeps us all going.
So — when did you last get out with your camera in the great outdoors?

Dilip Bhatia was there at the very beginning. He took a whole month off from his photography career to travel with Iqbal to the US in search of the right faculty, and was an invaluable sounding board. That someone of his calibre gave us his time so generously meant a great deal. An invaluable companion in those early days, Dilip has remained close to LLA ever since, as a well-wisher. Here’s what he had to say on LLA’s 25th Anniversary.

Dilip Bhatia is a much acclaimed advertising and celebrity photographer based in Mumbai. Over a career spanning decades, he has shot some of the biggest names — Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Sachin Tendulkar, Priyanka Chopra — and worked with the leading advertising agencies in the country across thousands of campaigns.
