A Journey Through the History of Fashion

The Semester 3 students of B.Des. Fashion Design at Chitkara Design School embarked on a fascinating journey through the history of clothing by recreating costumes inspired by different civilizations and societies. This immersive academic exercise enabled students to study the evolution of garments, understand traditional techniques of draping, stitching, and design, and appreciate the craftsmanship that has shaped fashion across eras.

Beyond aesthetics, the project encouraged students to recognise that fashion is deeply influenced by social, cultural, political, and economic transformations. Through research and hands-on recreation, they discovered how clothing serves as a reflection of the lifestyle, values, and identity of societies throughout history.

At Chitkara Design School, experiential learning empowers students to connect historical perspectives with contemporary design thinking, nurturing a deeper appreciation for fashion as both a creative discipline and a cultural narrative.

Chitkara Design School x Fashion Revolution India: Raising the Next Generation of Fashion Revolutionaries 👗🌍

Proud to take forward our MoU with Fashion Revolution India as the Fashion Department of Chitkara University commemorated Fashion Revolution Week with purpose, creativity, and action.

Our Foundation Year students put values into practice. They collected old denim from across campus and handcrafted it into bags, accessories, and new products—proving that waste is just a resource in the wrong place. Every stitch reinforced our commitment to the planet and the people behind our clothes.

Highlights from the week:
Upcycled Denim Drive: From discarded jeans to designed products on student-led stalls
Interactive Learning: Games that decoded fashion’s environmental footprint
Pre-loved Photobooth: Celebrating style with existing accessories, not new consumption
Sustainability Showcase: Student projects and ideas for responsible fashion futures
Embroidery for Impact: Hands-on workshop teaching repair, reuse, and slow design skills

More than an event, this was education in action. Our students didn’t just learn about sustainability—they practiced it, designed it, and shared it with the campus community.

Because the future of fashion is circular, conscious, and created by young revolutionaries who ask .

Thank you to Fashion Revolution India for being partners in this journey.
