TB Mukt Bharat Awareness Programme by NCC Cadets of SGSC Chakung

Date: 18 September 2026

The NCC cadets of Sikkim Government Science College, Chakung, under 4 Sikkim Battalion NCC, conducted a TB Mukt Bharat Awareness Programme at Chakung village under Chumbong BAC, Soreng District, on 18 September 2026.

The awareness programme was conducted throughout the day, during which the NCC cadets, along with the ANO, visited households across Chakung and interacted with the villagers to spread awareness about Tuberculosis (TB). The villagers were sensitised about the symptoms, causes, prevention, treatment and medication of TB, along with the important do’s and don’ts to help prevent its spread.

The programme aimed to create awareness among the community and encourage people to seek timely medical advice, diagnosis and treatment for TB.

We sincerely thank Shri Nordhen Bhutia, our college staff member, for his valuable support and for guiding us in reaching each and every household in Chakung, which greatly contributed to the successful conduct of this awareness programme.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our respected Principal Madam for granting permission to conduct this important community outreach activity, and to the Heads of various Departments/Faculties for permitting the cadets to participate in the programme.

We are also grateful to the Commanding Officer, 4 SK BN NCC, for his continued guidance, encouragement and support towards NCC activities and community outreach programmes.

The active participation of our NCC cadets in such initiatives reflects the true spirit of “Service to the Nation” and their commitment towards building a healthier, safer and more aware society.

A Basic Drone Training Camp was organised by 1 SK BN NCC, Gangtok, as part of CATC SK-V, at 4 SK BN NCC, Namchi, from 26 July to 03 August 2026. Three NCC cadets, comprising one Senior Wing (SW) cadet and two Senior Division (SD) cadets from Sikkim Government Science College (SGSC), Chakung, participated in the camp. The training was aimed at introducing cadets to drone technology and providing both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in basic drone operation.

Throughout the camp, cadets attended training sessions covering the fundamentals of drones, their components, working principles, safety precautions, and different fields of application. Special emphasis was given to practical training, where each cadet first practised on a computer-based drone simulator using an RC controller to build confidence before proceeding to actual drone flying.

The major areas covered during the training included:

1. Drone Basics and Introduction to UAVs
2. Types and Components of Drones
3. Principles of Aerodynamics
4. Flight Controllers and Basic Flight Operations
5. Drone Safety Essentials
6. Rules and Regulations for Drone Operations
7. Pre-flight Checks and Safety Procedures
8. Practical Drone Flying and Handling
9. Basic Maintenance and Technical Skills
10. Applications of Drones in Various Fields
11. Written Examination
12. Viva Examination

Apart from drone training, the camp also helped cadets develop discipline, teamwork, confidence, and technical awareness. The practical sessions provided valuable hands-on experience and a better understanding of the use of drones in various fields.
