A memorable and inspiring celebration of Gandhi Jayanti was organised by the Debates and Seminars Committee, Govt. Degree College Verinag, with enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students.
The programme provided a vibrant platform for the college community to engage with the life, philosophy and enduring ideas of Mahatma Gandhi. The celebrations featured insightful speeches and debates on “The Relevance of Gandhi’s Non-Violence in the 21st Century,” along with heartfelt poems dedicated to the Father of the Nation and letters penned in tribute to Gandhi. One of the highlights of the programme was a powerful dramatic portrayal of the historic Dandi March, bringing to life an iconic episode of India’s freedom struggle and Gandhi’s commitment to truth and non-violence.
The programme was also addressed by the Principal, Prof. Roop Krishan Pandit, who highlighted the continuing relevance of Gandhian values in contemporary society. The proceedings were moderated by Prof. Tafazul Hussain, who facilitated the various segments of the programme and encouraged meaningful participation from students. The celebration served as a thoughtful reminder that Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non-violence, peace, tolerance and social responsibility continue to hold significance in the 21st century.
