Opening our September Showcase with a World Premiere at La Biennale di Venezia is really a joy. EKLIPSE, co-produced by our members at Albolina Film GmbH , premieres this Saturday on the Lido!

Directed by Manuel Wetscher, the film is competing in the Orizzonti section and follows two childhood friends, Tomy and Chris, one summer in 1999 — a story of silence, fear, and the quiet weight of what families choose not to say. It's a story brought to the world stage through a co-production between Austria's Eutopiafilm and Albolina Film here in South Tyrol.

And the journey doesn't stop at the Lido: EKLIPSE will cross the Atlantic for its North American Premiere at TIFF on September 11.

We couldn't be prouder to see our members' work stand among this year's selection at one of the world's most prestigious festivals — and then travel on to Toronto too. In bocca al lupo to the whole cast and crew, especially also to our members Debora Nischler (co-producer) and Beniamino Casagrande (Grip).

While the 32nd edition of the Film Festival della Lessinia is getting closer, we're happy to share that another one of our members' films is travelling to Bosco Chiesanuova!

The Festival will present 83 films from 43 countries, including 27 Italian premieres — among them IL GRECO DI CALABRIA – la lingua che lotta per sopravvivere al tempo, a documentary produced by our members at Mediaart Production Coop and edited by our member Martine De Biasi.

Congratulations to the whole team!

A language that still survives, clinging to the mountains much like the remote villages where it is still spoken, in the mountains of Calabria. The Calabrian-Greek dialect (known as Grecanic) dates back to the eighth century and represents one of the last living legacies of Magna Graecia, the strip of southern Italy colonized by the ancient Greeks. Today, approximately 300 people still speak this ancient language. They live in the southern part of the province of Reggio Calabria, known as Bovesìa, in Gallicianò, Bova, Bova Marina, Pentedattilo, and Roghudi. It is here that this language has endured for almost 3000 years. But the villages are emptying, the houses are abandoned, and the alleys are silent, and only a distant echo of this dialect remains. The director, through interviews and a thorough documentary investigation, follows the trail of one of the oldest living languages in Europe and of the people who preserve it and fight to save it from extinction, that is not necessarily inevitable.

After a little break, we're back with news from our members! More festivals and screenings of our members' films are coming up in August too.

If you haven't seen MY BOYFRIEND EL FASCISTA yet — it's been touring the world for over a year now — you can catch it tonight at an open-air venue near Bolzano. The Bildungsausschuss Klausen is running a Summer Cinema series, and it's screening tonight at 21:00 in the Kapuzinergarten — a good way to beat the city heat.

On July 11, DESPITE THE SCARS, directed by our member Felix Rier and produced by our members from HELIOS sustainable films , will be running in competition at the 21st edition of the Sole Luna Festival in Palermo!

Having had its World Premiere at Festival in 2025 and its International Premiere this year at Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis , the film continues its festival and screening journey.

With many FAS members involved, we are happy to see that the tender story about such an important topic reaches more audiences.

SYNOPSIS
After enduring the trauma of a brutal gang r**e, young dancer Thea embarks on a profound journey of healing. Through her choreography, she confronts her pain step by step, gradually transforming her vulnerability into a quiet yet fierce bravery.

With the unwavering support of her partner Thiago and the unconditional love of their dog Mandinga, Thea discovers a safe space to begin piecing together her shattered world. The birth of her son further redefines her relationship with her body and sense of self.

We follow Thea's most intimate struggles through her personal video diaries, intertwined with the tender lens of her childhood friend, filmmaker Felix, who uncovers the unspoken layers of her healing process.

DESPITE THE SCARS highlights the collective responsibility we share in supporting those who have endured trauma, reminding us of the vital roles of empathy, dignity and love in times of darkness.

CONIGLI AL CIMITERO, the second-year ZeLIG School for Documentary, Television and New Media student film completed in 2024, is touring this July as part of Kinocaravan!

The short film will screen at three stops across Italy:
9 Luglio — Pian del Cansiglio (BL), Rifugio Alpino Vallorch
18 Luglio — San Bonifacio (VR), Parco Praissola
28 Luglio — Moniga del Garda (BS), Castello di Moniga

Kinocaravan – Giovani Visioni Italiane is a touring cinema project built to bring authors, films, and local communities into direct contact — treating cinema as a collective experience and a tool for social reflection, at a time when watching films is increasingly solitary and fragmented. Each evening centers on four short films followed by a live conversation with the filmmakers present.

TIAN, produced by our members from Takt Film — with Verena Ranzi as producer— is touring again!

This kaleidoscopic documentary follows various farmers in South Tyrol as they search for a more sustainable way of farming. Two upcoming screenings in July:

10/07 — Ulten, Museum Culten, 20:00, followed by a Q&A with Thomas Schäfer
24/07 — Auer, Aurora Filmdays, 19:30

On 24/07 at : Before the screening, from 16:00 to 19:00, there will be a workshop on wild herb cooking with director and chef Thomas Schäfer. Registration is required at: [email protected]

Synopsis:
Our food is losing its value, the soil its health, and the climate its stability. A designer with farming roots and a trained chef ask themselves how agriculture can have a future. In TIAN, they meet people who not only work their land, but reimagine it — navigating tradition, economic pressure, and a desire for new paths. What connects them is their closeness to the earth and a shared belief that change is possible. The film follows choices that unfold quietly, yet have the power to move something within us.
