Yesterday at LAB02 the 9DF Shake Table subjected a full-scale partition system to progressive seismic loading from the 2016 Norcia earthquake. The test is part of the ERIESIW2026 programme.

Today marks the beginning of ERIES-IW2026. Three days of groundbreaking research in earthquake engineering, wind engineering, and geotechnical engineering converge in Pavia. Join us from 25 to 27 May for the concluding event of the ERIES project.

The Tenth Nigel Priestley Seminar concludes: excellence honoured, the future shaped

Over two days, Pavia has been the centre of earthquake engineering excellence. Sessions 2 and 3 brought presentations from Marta Bertassi, Margherita Buttazzoni, Carlo Fontana, Serkan Hasanoglu, and Basar Yucel on masonry gables, life-cycle decision-making, autonomous seismic protection, and fragility assessment following the 2023 Türkiye earthquakes

The Keynote Lecture from Prof. Paolo Franchin explored the second-generation Eurocode 8 and its bridging of research into practice.

The Nigel Priestley Prize 2026 was conferred posthumously to Professor Paolo Emilio Pinto, whose pioneering work on nonlinear modelling and the Menegotto–Pinto model has shaped how the world engineers seismic resilience.

Prof. Pinto’s sister was present to accept the Prize.

ROSE Graduation Ceremony celebrated a cohort trained to rigour and responsibility.

At the end of the event, the Rector of the University of Pavia, Alessandro Reali, gave a closing address.

See you in 2027 for the Eleventh Edition o The Nigel Priestley Seminar.

Day 2 of the Tenth Nigel Priestley Seminar: where excellence converges

Yesterday evening, the global community gathered researchers from fifteen countries, students, mentors, leaders. Today, that community reconvenes with purpose.

The second day brings the Keynote Lecture from Prof. Paolo Franchin on the second-generation Eurocode 8, bridging the latest research into engineering practice across Europe. At midday, the Nigel Priestley Prize 2026 will be conferred posthumously to Professor Paolo Emilio Pinto, whose work has defined half a century of international earthquake engineering. And this afternoon, the ROSE Graduation Ceremony will celebrate a cohort trained to rigour, responsibility, and the principle that engineering serves resilience.

Two days. One shared commitment to rigorous science and human safety.

Day 1 of the Tenth Nigel Priestley Seminar: research in motion

Today at the Collegio Riboldi in Pavia, three doctoral defences shaped the opening hours of the Tenth International Nigel Priestley Seminar. Martina Cogliano, Rita Monteiro Garcia Couto, and William Galik presented rigorous research on masonry retrofitting, integrated seismic-energy strategies, and crack-based assessment of earthquake-damaged structures. Followed by the first session of ROSE PhD presentations from José Poveda and Besim Yukselen on capacity design and seismic retrofitting optimisation.

Tomorrow brings the Keynote Address by Prof. Paolo Franchin on Eurocode 8 innovations, the conferral of the Nigel Priestley Prize, and the celebration of ROSE graduation.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the mayor of Pavia, Michele Lissia, who took the floor to extend his greetings to all those attending the seminar.

Research in motion, rigour in action.
