If you are interested in modelling of high-frequency impedance spectra in Li-ion batteries, check our new publication, which proposes a 3D modelling framework for fully coupled modelling of electrochemical-electromagnetic phenomena in cylindrical cells with a focus on higher-frequency intra-cell phenomena: https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1149/1945-7111/ae94f5

The paper is a result of a fruitful with University of Ljubljana, Faculty Of Mechanical Engineering (Igor Mele, Tomaž Katrašnik), within ADVAGEN project (https://www.advagen.eu/).

Congratulations to Elisa Ravesio, who last week successfully defended her PhD thesis titled: "Sustainable High-Capacity Lithium-Ion Battery Anodes: An Integrated Approach to Materials, Electrode Manufacturing and Environmental Impact".

During her PhD, Elisa focused on developing sustainable, high-capacity lithium-ion battery anodes by integrating materials engineering, electrode manufacturing, and life-cycle assessment. Her research focused on innovative silicon-dominant anodes to improve battery performance while reducing the environmental impact of their production, contributing to the scale-up of next-generation LIBs.
Elisa was awarded the title of PhD in Chemical Engineering, cm laude! Congratulations once again Elisa, and all the best for your future! 🎓🔋

Congratulations to Paolo Tallone, who successfully defended his PhD thesis titled "Advanced Processing Strategies for High-Performance and Sustainable Lithium-Ion Battery Electrodes" ! 🎉👏
Over the past years, Paolo has carried out his research on the application of laser-based processing techniques to develop more efficient and sustainable lithium-based batteries. His work spans from engineering current collectors for anode-less lithium metal batteries, to laser structuring of electrodes for improved electrochemical performance, and innovative direct recycling strategies for high-energy cathode materials.
His research demonstrates how advanced manufacturing can simultaneously enhance battery performance, safety, and sustainability, contributing to the development of next-generation energy storage technologies and supporting a more circular battery value chain.
Paolo was awarded the title of PhD in Material Science and Technology, cm laude. Congratulations once again, Dr. Tallone, and all the best for your future! 🎓🔋

We were in Helsinki last week for the 42nd topical meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry. We had the opportunity to present our last research results, disseminate projects and to visit the beautiful Aalto University campus, to reconnect with old friends and colleagues, and meet new ones. This has been a great occasion for fruitful scientific discussions which could hopefully be concretised in future collaborations!

Happy to announce that Prof. Teresa Gatti has won the ERC Proof of Concept VIPER. It will develop next-generation indoor photovoltaic cells to power sensors and IoT devices using artificial light, combining lead-free bismuth- and antimony-based materials with upcycled carbon electrodes from waste streams such as end-of-life tyres and residual biomass.
