Sonic Japan An anthropology project on sound in Japan We record sounds across the prefectures of Japan, covering a wide variety of themes.

Sonic Japan is a sound blog and sound map featuring ambient recordings and images that communicate sonic life in Japan. The sounds of aikido training at a dojo, of streetscapes in dense urban neighborhoods and of fish selling practices at the market are just a few of the fascinating scenes we've managed to capture. Sonic Japan is part of an ongoing project in anthropology by Melbourne University, Monash University, the Australian Research Council and MNSI, the Melbourne Networked Society Institute.
