Nagoya has seen its fair share of wet weather over the past few weeks, with flooding during student residence check-in week, showers accompanying orientation, a few sprinkles on graduation, and drizzle on the first day of classes.

Yet as graduating students pass the torch to a new cohort, the spirit of learning at NUCB Business School remains undimmed as Fall 2026 begins.

This semester, students from 52 countries come together in our weekend courses, exploring real-world business challenges through case discussions and exchanging perspectives across industries and cultures.

Exchange students at NUCB Business School recently had the opportunity to experience one of Japan’s most iconic cultural traditions: Grand Sumo.

Thanks to the support of the Chancellor’s Office, four exchange students received exclusive box seat tickets to the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament through a lottery held by the International Affairs team.

The students experienced an authentic tournament atmosphere, including the ceremonial traditions, preparation before each bout, and the excitement of watching professional wrestlers compete.

Connecting the classroom with real-world sustainability. 🌱

This semester's ERS (Ethics, Responsibility, and Sustainability) Project at NUCB Business School, led by Professor Hakeem, gave students the opportunity to engage directly with industry partners and explore real-world business and sustainability challenges.

Through visits to Niterra, STEM, SMAC, and the Chita Nanbu Sewage Purification Center, students gained firsthand insight into sustainable business practices and environmental infrastructure before presenting their findings to company representatives.

Experiential learning like the ERS Project continues to equip our students with the skills and perspectives needed to become responsible global business leaders.

In May, NUCB Business School welcomed the fifth cohort of participants from Egypt's Central Department of Missions (CDM) under the Egypt–Japan Education Partnership (EJEP).

Through academic sessions, institutional visits, and reflection workshops, participants explored Japanese education systems, university governance, and the role of education in society while engaging with faculty experts and educational institutions across Aichi Prefecture.

Associate Dean Prof. Rebecca Chunghee Kim co-hosted a roundtable on Women’s Leadership Towards Green Transformation with visiting Japan Foundation Indo-Pacific Partnership (JFIPP) fellow Prof. Divya Singhal of Goa Institute of Management (GIM), bringing together experts from Japan and India to discuss gender, sustainability, and policy impact.

Key themes included gender gaps in leadership, SME succession, grassroots climate action, and translating research into policy.

In May, we welcomed participants from the University of Sydney Executive MBA program for the second consecutive year of their study tour in Nagoya, Leading Change: Innovation and Culture in Japan.

The program combined company visits, academic sessions, and applied workshops exploring how Japanese organizations are responding to digital transformation and leadership change.

Participants engaged with Matsumoto Gishi, Denso Takatana, Aichi Dobby (Vermicular), and Alpen Group, with academic framing provided by NUCB Business School faculty and MIT CISR researchers.

A week of discussions and project work connected academic insight with real business challenges in Japan.

☔🏯 No Rain on This Parade!

Despite the rainy weather, our international & exchange students enjoyed a fantastic cultural enrichment trip to Inuyama.

The day included visits to the Dondenkan Museum and the IMAISEN Karakuri Museum, where students learned about the traditions of the famous Inuyama Festival and the craftsmanship behind its karakuri puppets. They also experienced shrine etiquette at Sanko Inari Shrine before exploring historic Inuyama Castle, one of Japan’s oldest surviving original castles.

Rain or shine, these experiences offer valuable opportunities to engage with Japanese history, culture, and tradition beyond the classroom.

We look forward to sharing more cultural enrichment experiences with our students throughout the semester. 🌸🇯🇵

We are pleased to share an upcoming online Stakeholder Roundtable on Women’s Leadership towards Green Transformation: Pathways Forward, taking place on 3 June 2026 (3:00–4:00 pm JST / 11:30–12:30 pm IST) online (via Zoom: Details on the event page linked below)

As global efforts toward net-zero and sustainability accelerate, the role of inclusive leadership is becoming increasingly critical. However, women remain underrepresented in climate governance and sustainability leadership systems.

This roundtable brings together researchers and practitioners from Japan and India to share early insights from ongoing collaborative research and to foster dialogue on how inclusive leadership can shape more effective green transformation pathways.

NUCB Business School hosted the Putra Study Tour 2026 for students from Universiti Putra Malaysia, offering a focused four-day program on Japanese industry and business practice.

Across the program, participants engaged in classroom learning, industry-led sessions, and company visits spanning traditional manufacturing and advanced industrial sectors.

Highlights included:

• Industry-led sessions on Japan’s aviation sector delivered by Dr. Hiroyuki Waku and our EMBA alumnus Mr. Hiroyuki Tanaka (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries)
• Visits to the Mizkan Museum and Kakukyu, exploring heritage-driven business models
• Field exposure to automotive and precision engineering at the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology and Asahi Forge

The program provided participants with a structured lens into Japanese industrial development, connecting theory with practice across sectors and generations.
