Research and education are the main focus of UNCECAR.

The University Network for Climate and Ecosystems Change Adaptation Research (UN-CECAR) was established in 2009 by leading universities in the Asia Pacific region to strengthen higher education to respond effectively to climate and ecosystems change. The network will bring together all-available resources and expertise across disciplinary lines to work collaboratively to enhance understanding on how climate change is affecting roughly two-thirds of the world's population who live in Asia Pacific region, and advance adaptation research for the design of appropriate policy and development strategies.
