Global transformations have revealed the need today to move beyond traditional frameworks of national, ethnic, and regional thinking. Focusing on a variety of social and political challenges confronting contemporary society, the program at GIS seeks to cultivate a truly global perspective, developing innovative ways to both analyze and engage with the shared experiences of an increasingly interdependent world. Recognizing that global problems are profoundly multidimensional in character, integral to this approach is thinking about issues in ways that move between and beyond traditional academic fields. Global studies at GIS is defined by this commitment to an interdisciplinary education that has the potential to transcend not only the limits of established intellectual boundaries but also the conflicts and crises of cultural and regional differences.
