These photos were taken on Toyonaka campus, the University of Osaka. Many people go through without any attention, but this flower, hydrangea, grew up to bloom strongly. Wouldn't it be nice to take such a beautiful view every once in awhile?

[Research Update] A press release has been issued: “Two proteins, one goal: new findings on stem cell differentiation”
Research led by Assistant Prof. Takamasa Ito, Prof. Chiaki Obuse, and colleagues (Dept. of Biological Sciences) has been published in Cell Reports. They found that the zinc finger proteins RLF and ZFP292 assist in stabilizing the CoREST corepressor complex at gene promoters in embryonic stem cells, preventing differentiation.

[Joint Event]
The University of Osaka hosted the “UOsaka–NTNU AI Workshop” on April 30 and May 1, 2026, at Toyonaka Campus.
Eighteen students from diverse academic backgrounds joined lectures and practical sessions on AIoT and edge AI using the AMB82-mini platform, led by faculty members and student tutors from National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). Participants explored the full workflow from AI fundamentals to data collection, training, and implementation, culminating in an exciting mini-car AI race.

We would like to express its sincere gratitude to the faculty members and student tutors from NTNU for their invaluable cooperation and support in making this workshop possible.

[Visit from abroad]
On April 24, a delegation from National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) from Taiwan, visited our Graduate School of Science. During the meeting, the participants exchanged views on future collaboration and on a joint symposium scheduled to be held at the University of Osaka in October this year.

After the meeting, a research presentation session was held, featuring presentations by two NSYSU faculty members and four students interested in the Double Degree Program (DDP).

We will continue preparations for the successful joint symposium and further strengthen the cooperative relationship between two universities.

[Research]
A press release has been issued under the title "Quantized current induced by acoustic waves
Opening the way to new quantum devices that utilize strain", featuring the research of Professor NIIMI Yasuhiro of our Graduate School of Science et al. The researchers discovered that by applying strain to the one-dimensional chain compound NbSe₃, which exhibits a charge-density-wave (CDWs) state, using an acoustic wave of SAW, a plateau structure appears in the current-voltage characteristics, indicating quantization.

A research group including Koji Fujiwara (a third-year doctoral student at the time of the research), Associate Professor Shintaro Takada, and Professor Yasuhiro Niimi of the Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science, the University of Osaka, discovered that by applying strain to the one-dim...

[Research]
A press release has been issued under the title "The truth of timekeeping lies within: key developments in understanding circadian rhythms", featuring the research of Specially Appointed Assistant Professor ITO-MIWA Kumiko of our Graduate School of Science et al. The research team have revealed that circadian clock oscillation in cyanobacteria is controlled by factors intrinsic to one of the proteins that controls it, in a manner that is unaffected by environmental conditions.
