Tharaka University has today etched its name in Kenya’s legal education history following the official launch of its School of Law, becoming the 21st accredited law school in the country.

The colorful ceremony brought together distinguished members of the legal fraternity, university leadership, students, and other stakeholders to celebrate a milestone that expands access to legal education and opportunities in the region.

The event featured captivating student performances, recognition of outstanding mooting achievements, and inspiring addresses from legal and academic leaders who hailed the School of Law as a transformative addition to the University's academic portfolio.

Tharaka University (TUN) has reaffirmed its commitment to effective governance, strategic leadership and institutional sustainability through a successful three-day Council and Management Retreat held at Lake Naivasha Resort from 27th to 29th May 2026.

The retreat brought together the University Council, led by Council Chairman Prof. Peter Keiyoro, alongside Vice-Chancellor Prof. Peter K. Muriungi and members of Management to deliberate on key issues shaping the future of higher education and the University's long-term growth.

Tharaka University(TUN) has taken a significant step towards strengthening its international research profile after hosting renowned African Studies scholar Prof. dr. Inge Brinkman of Ghent University, Belgium, for a public lecture on research grant writing and strategic discussions on a proposed research partnership between the two institutions.

The engagement brought together researchers, postgraduate students, and university leaders to explore opportunities for research funding, academic exchange, and institutional collaboration, with both universities expressing commitment to formalizing the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Tharaka University (TUN) made a remarkable mark at the Inaugural Mount Kenya University North-Rift Tournament held from 30th–31st May at Eldoret Sports Club, Uasin-Gishu County, earning a Certificate of Participation and clinching two trophies in the corporate category.

The TUN Netball Ladies Team and TUN Veterans Team emerged unbeaten champions, demonstrating exceptional teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship against strong competition from participating institutions.

Beyond the trophies, the tournament highlighted TUN's commitment to staff wellness, teamwork, networking, and holistic excellence, proving that success thrives both in the workplace and on the field.

Tharaka University (TUN) is among the institutions participating in the ongoing Madaraka Day Celebrations 2026 Education Week Exhibition held at Wagberi Primary School grounds, Wajir County, under the theme “Education, Skills, and the Future.”

The three-day exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Education, was officially flagged off by Dr. Beatrice Inyangala and brings together institutions and stakeholders to showcase advancements in education, research, innovation, technology, and skills development.

TUN is showcasing its academic programmes, research innovations, and technological solutions aimed at empowering communities and supporting sustainable national development, while strengthening its visibility in national education and innovation platforms.

The University is represented by Dr. Ismael Kwenga, COD Computer Science; Ms. Ruth Ndung’u, COD Basic Sciences; and Mr. Adan Ndenge, Farm Manager, and student innovators.

Members of the public are invited to visit the TUN exhibition booth to explore academic programmes, innovations, and collaboration opportunities.
