We were honoured to host a delegation from the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS), the Kenya Women Veterinary Association (KWVA) and Turkana County Government for a courtesy call to the Principal, Prof. George Chemining'wa, under the "Kick Rabies and Hydatidosis out of Turkana" One Health Campaign.

The visit, led by Dr. Azegele Allan and Dr. Anima Sirma, marked the culmination of a five-year partnership that has vaccinated over 1,000 animals against rabies, treated 250+ donkeys and sterilized 240 animals across Turkana.

Highlights included a student mentorship session on careers in veterinary medicine, public health and environmental science, plus a tree-planting exercise to mark our commitment to environmental stewardship. Dr. Azegele also renewed the call for TUC to establish a Faculty of Veterinary Sciences to build local capacity.

Turkana University College today held its Matriculation Ceremony, officially welcoming the 2026/2027 Cohort to the Main Campus. Presided over by the Principal Prof. George Chemining’wa, the ceremony capped a week that began with student reporting on Monday 31st August 2026 and orientation on Wednesday.

In his address, Prof. Chemining’wa challenged the new students to embrace academic excellence, discipline, and innovation, while reaffirming the College's vision to become a globally esteemed university in teaching, research, and outreach. He also urged students to prioritize their wellbeing and steer clear of drug and substance abuse.

The ceremony was further elevated by performances from Turkana University College's own students, fresh from their triumph at the 98th Kenya National Music Festival, where they secured three trophies across various competitive categories. The trophies were presented to the Principal, drawing warm applause and underscoring the College's excellence beyond the classroom. Students who took part in the festival were also awarded certificates of participation in recognition of their talent and dedication.
