Admitted students can now log in to the SMIS portal using their registration number and KCSE index number to download their admission letters and joining instructions.

PROUD MOMENT FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI FAMILY
The University of Nairobi congratulates our distinguished alumnus, Professor Robert Mokaya, OBE, FRS, on assuming office as President of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC);becoming the first Black President in the Society's 185-year history.

Prof. Mokaya graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1988 before pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge. Today, he is internationally recognised for his pioneering research in materials chemistry, sustainable energy and porous materials, and serves as Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sheffield.

His election to lead one of the world's foremost scientific organisations is a remarkable personal achievement and a proud milestone for the University of Nairobi. It reflects the global impact of our alumni and the University's enduring contribution to advancing science, research and innovation.

We celebrate Prof. Mokaya's outstanding leadership and wish him every success as he steers the Royal Society of Chemistry in shaping the future of the chemical sciences.

The President has announced that all students who qualify for admission to universities and colleges will receive full government funding for their higher education under a proposed new funding model.

According to him, the new system is expected to take effect from September 2026, subject to Parliament passing the relevant Bill.

If approved, every student who passes national examinations and is placed in a university or college will qualify for government funding, with parents only contributing voluntarily if they wish.

N/B: This is a policy announcement and has not yet taken effect. The current Higher Education Funding Model remains in use until the proposed law is passed and implemented.
