PSC Conducts M&E for PSIP Cohort 8 Interns

Today, the Authority had the pleasure of hosting a team from the Public Service Commission (PSC) for a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) exercise focused on their current cohort of interns. The visit specifically reviewed the progress and experiences of the interns who were posted to the Authority in January under the Public Service Internship Programme (PSIP) Cohort 8.

The PSIP continues to serve as an invaluable tool in bridging the gap between academia and the professional world, ensuring that young graduates gain real, hands-on, work-based experience in preparation for their future employment.
During the evaluation, the interns expressed their sincere appreciation for the meaningful tasks assigned to them and the robust platform they have been given to work. This hands-on environment has significantly enhanced their professional work experience, networking opportunities, and overall industry exposure.

The Authority remains deeply committed to championing the exposure and growth of our interns, fostering an environment where the next generation of professionals can thrive, learn, and contribute meaningfully to the public sector.

The PSC Delegation comprised of: Gabriel Kariuki, Esther Mumbwa and Hafsa Abdi all from the Commision’s Human Resource Department.

The TVETA team comprised of Mohamed Bonaya from HR, Peninah Muthoka from Records Management Unit, Kennedy Matuku from Accreditation, Souda Bishar from Records Management Unit, Abigael Wairua from Standards Development, Hosea Kipng’etich from ICT, as well as Cynthia Sutek from Corporate Communications.

TVETA and Partners Plant Over 2,000 Trees, Inspire Students to Embrace Skills Training

The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), in partnership with the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM), and the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (TVET CDACC), today planted more than 2,000 trees at St. Augustine Ngenia Boys High School in Kiambu County as part of a joint commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

The exercise was supported by trainers and students from Vera Beauty College, Premier Professional Institute, and Amboseli Institute of Hospitality demonstrating the growing role of TVET institutions in advancing national environmental goals while nurturing responsible citizenship among learners.

Beyond tree planting, the team conducted an engaging career guidance and mentorship session for Form Four students, exposing them to the vast opportunities available through the TVET pathway and emerging careers in a rapidly evolving job market. The students were encouraged to embrace practical, hands-on skills training as a viable route to employment, entrepreneurship, innovation, and lifelong success.

Representing the Acting Director General of TVETA, Mr. Timothy Nyongesa Katiambo, the Authority’s Head of Corporate Communications, James Momanyi, emphasized that environmental stewardship and skills development are complementary pillars of national transformation. He noted that greening learning institutions is not only contributing to the Government’s target of growing 15 billion trees by 2032, but is also instilling a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility among young people.

Representatives from KNQA and TVET CDACC also engaged the students on their respective mandates and highlighted the diverse opportunities available within Kenya’s competency-based TVET ecosystem.

Speaking during the event, Kevin Osundwa, Regional Director for Africa at ICM, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to environmental conservation as a key component of its corporate social responsibility agenda. He pledged continued collaboration with TVETA and other stakeholders to support tree-growing initiatives and promote skills development among Kenyan youth.

The initiative underscores the power of partnerships in shaping a greener, more skilled, and more prosperous Kenya. As the country works towards environmental sustainability and industrial transformation, TVET institutions remain at the forefront of producing graduates who are not only job-ready but also environmentally conscious and committed to building a better future for generations to come.

Consultative Engagements Between TVETA And College of Insurance (COI) on Compliance

TVETA officers had a meeting today with the management of the College of Insurance to discuss institutional compliance with TVETA standards and guidelines, alongside exploring potential areas of collaboration.

The following areas were discussed;

Compliance with Standards: Discussed current compliance issues and outlined strategic measures to ensure the college aligns fully with regulatory benchmarks.

Consultative Engagements: Both TVETA and COI agreed on the need for structured, consultative follow-ups and ongoing engagements to support the college in meeting and maintaining TVET standards and guidelines.

Strategic Collaboration: Both teams identified potential areas of partnership and mutual collaboration, strictly guided by the provisions of the TVET Act Cap 210 A and the Insurance Act (Cap 487).

In attendance from the College were: Dr. Ben Kajwang- CEO, Dr. Mercy Karogo – Head of Examinations and Joash Mwalo – Head of Curriculum, while the TVETA Team included Dr. Paul Wanyeki and Phoebe Makanga, both from the Compliance Department, as well as Cynthia Sutek from Corporate Communication.

TVETA Public Engagement on the 2024/2025 Quality Audit Report Enters Final Day

The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) today concludes its Stakeholders’ Public Engagement and Dissemination Forum on the 2024/2025 TVET Quality Audit Report, bringing together key actors committed to advancing quality, accountability, and excellence in technical and vocational education and training.

Building on the success of the opening day, the forum has attracted participants from the Ministry of Education, National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), county governments, State agencies, National Polytechnics, Technical and Vocational Colleges (TVCs), Vocational Training Centres (VTCs), and other strategic partners from across the country.

Officially opening the forum, the Chief Guest, TVET Secretary Joseph Njau, representing the Principal Secretary for TVET Dr. Esther Muoria, underscored the critical role of quality audits in driving institutional excellence and continuous improvement. He also highlighted the ongoing reforms transforming Kenya’s TVET sector into a more responsive, industry-driven, and globally competitive system.

The opening ceremony also featured remarks from Taita Taveta County Executive Committee Member for Education and VTCs Gloria Monikombo, Taita Taveta County Commissioner Linda Okola, and TVETA Board Chairperson Prof. Kellen Kiambati, all of whom reaffirmed the importance of collaboration in strengthening quality skills development.
Participants were taken through detailed presentations of the audit findings covering National Polytechnics, Technical and Vocational Colleges, and Vocational Training Centres. The discussions examined institutional performance across key quality pillars, including Leadership, Governance and Management; Human Resources; Physical Resources; Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Cooperation; Training Delivery; Programme Evaluation; and Trainee Support Services.

The interactive sessions generated robust discussions, with stakeholders raising pertinent questions and offering practical recommendations to enhance quality assurance and institutional performance. Issues requiring further action have been referred to the relevant offices for follow-up.

The final day of the forum will feature presentations and dialogue led by VTC managers, County Directors of Vocational Education and Training, County Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers, KENAPCO, KATTI, National Polytechnics, and Technical and Vocational Colleges. Their contributions will help shape collaborative solutions that strengthen governance, improve training quality, and ensure Kenya’s TVET sector continues to produce a skilled workforce capable of driving national development and economic transformation.
