On 10 July 2026, the ParagonU Department of Economics hosted the National Student Conference 2026, bringing together a vibrant community of students, academics, and researchers to discuss the future of Cambodia’s economy.

We were honored to feature distinguished guest speakers Dr. Matthew Howard McCartney and Dr. Milan Thomas, who shared invaluable insights on the critical role of research in driving economic development. The event also served as a dynamic platform for students from universities across Cambodia—including the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) and the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP)—to showcase their original research papers and posters. 📚

With a Ph.D. in Economics from Georgetown University and a B.A. from the University of Cambridge, he brings a decade of experience in the design, implementation, and impact evaluation of development innovations from previous roles at USAID, the World Bank, and the Results for Development Institute.⁣

☕ On June 29, 2026, Dr. Kashif Hasan Khan, Head of the Economics Department, and Dr. Pahlaj Moolio, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, engaged in a discussion over coffee with Economics students.

✨On 7 May 2026, the Department of Economics was pleased to have Mr. Shakeel Ahmad, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Cambodia, for an insightful guest lecture on “Contemporary Models of Development and Underdevelopment (Institutions, Governance, and Development Outcomes).”

Throughout the session, students explored the role of institutions, governance, and policy in shaping development outcomes. Through active discussion and engagement, they developed a broader perspective on contemporary development challenges and opportunities from both theoretical and practical viewpoints.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Shakeel Ahmad for sharing his knowledge and experience with our students and contributing to an enriching learning experience. 🙏
