극단 은 실험의 소중한 가치가 관객과 함께 나누어지는 곳입니다.
극단 서울공장은 공연예술이 본래부터 갖고 있던 본질적인 요소들 중 가장 근본적인 것의 하나인 연기예술의 탐구 및 훈련을 목적으로 2001년 3월에 만들어진 ‘서울연기연구실 (Seoul Acting Lab)’을 모태로 합니다. 극단 서울공장은 연기예술이 본래 가지고 있었던 신체언어 위주의 연기훈련을 바탕으로 고전적인 작품의 재해석 및 한국인의 정서에 맞는 연기훈련법을 개발, 훈련하고 있으며 이를 바탕으로 한 공연 작업을 하고 있습니다.
또한, 서울공장은 뉴욕에서 1994년 창단되어 활동하고 있는 신체언어 중심이 극단 LITE(Laboratory for International Exchange, Inc. New York, 예술감독:
임형택, Adam Melnick)와 협력관계에 있으며 서구의 연극전통과 동양의 연극전통이 연기예술을 중심으로 교류될 수 있는 워크숍 및 공연을 통한 공연문화교류에도 힘을 쏟고 있습니다. 서울공장은 단순한 작품의 재생산이 아닌, 인간의 신체언어가 가진 무한한 가능성을 몸으로 탐구하고 그 결과물을 발표하는 기회를 마련할 것입니다. 서울공장은 공연예술이 본래 그랬듯이 우리 공동체의 구성원인 관객 여러분들과 보다 생산적으로 만날 수 있는 가능성을 더욱 열어보고자 합니다. 그래서 공연의 형식이나 내용에 있어서 보다 열린 구조를 가질 수 있는 가능성을 가꿔 보고자 합니다. A place where all imaginable experiments and open challenges take place the name itself indicates, 'A Feast for the Performing Arts'. A place known to explore the indefinite possibilities of physical language based on the movements of the actors' and the ensemble of sounds. A place to communicate with the audience through experiments and study, not just to discuss ideas and philosophy with only a pen. Workshops
Many of the workshops that 'Seoul Acting Lab' had started were retained by Seoul Factory for the Performing Arts, centered around Artistic Director Hyoung-Taek Limb. From the 1stView point workshop at Sejong University to the recent 16th View point workshop at the Studio of Seoul Factory for the Performing Arts, the workshopcontinues to develop further, while the spirit of the workshop remains the same with the above mission.
