Sogang University is the only one Roman Catholic Jesuit University in South Korea, founded in 1960 by the official assurance of Pope Pius XII in Vatican. But in spite of every disadvantage, Sogang is generally regarded as one of Top 5 Korean Universities. Under particular Jesuit Educational Philosophy, Sogang is famous for its educational quality. In a survey of The Ministry of Education, Sogang has been ranked at the highest among 300 Korean Universities in the ratio of senior students who get their job at 100 largest Korean companies. Also Sogang was ranked 2nd (right behind of Seoul National University) in terms of Social Reputation by a Survey of QS (United Kingdom) in 2010. Also, Sogang is well known for its high entrance competition rate and toughness of classes. In 2011, the entrance competition rate of Sogang was '45.91 to 1', the highest rate among top universities in South Korea of course. In addition, Sogang University was recorded as the University which gives the lowest percentage of 'A' grade for students in all classes, among 300 All korean Universities in 2011. There are 11,957 Undergraduates and 3,935 Graduates in Sogang 2012, and over 2,500 international Students study at the University in a year. The University is specially famous for its Liberal Arts Program, Economics and Business Administration majors, and mostly around Top 1~2% of Students in the Korean SAT enter the University.
