𝐈𝐧𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐥𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐤𝐬 – 2025/2026 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡

The Bhikkhu University of Sri Lanka formally enrolled its new batch for the academic year 2025/2026 with an inauguration ceremony held on 04th May 2026 at the University premises. The occasion marked the official induction of the newly admitted cohort of student monks into the University community.

The event brought together the new entrants and their guardian monks, symbolizing the beginning of their academic and spiritual journey. The ceremony was graced by the Deans of Faculties, members of the academic staff, the Registrar, administrative officers, and other university representatives.

An introductory program was conducted to guide students on academic regulations, institutional policies, and the standards expected during their first year of study. This session was designed to prepare the students for their academic responsibilities and University life.

In the evening, the students participated in a religious visit to the sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, where they sought blessings for success in their educational endeavors.

The ceremony concluded on a meaningful note, highlighting the University’s commitment to nurturing both the academic and spiritual development of its students.

The Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka announces a significant milestone in its academic advancement with the publication of pioneering research by the Department of Social Sciences and Comparative Studies, Faculty of Languages and Cultural Studies, in the internationally recognized Q1-indexed journal Quaternary Science Reviews.

The study, led by Dr. Rev. Pahiyangala Sumangala in collaboration with a research team, presents new findings on rainforest foragers in Sri Lanka, focusing on the Late Pleistocene to Late Holocene period. This research, carried out with the participation of local and foreign scholars, has revealed a wealth of important information regarding the evolution and lifestyle of the humans who lived in this country from the Late Pleistocene to the Holocene epoch. The findings enhance our understanding of early human adaptation and technological innovation in tropical rainforests, highlighting Sri Lanka’s significance in global prehistoric research. This research was conducted as a collaborative effort between the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka and Sichuan University in China.

𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – 2026

The 9th General Convocation and the 4th General Convocation (External) of the Bhikkhu University of Sri Lanka were held with great distinction at the newly constructed Multi-Purpose Building on 08 March 2026.

The ceremony was presided over by the Chancellor of the University, Most Venerable Karagoda Uyangoda Maithree Moorthi Thero, Honorary Mahanayaka of the Sri Lanka Amarapura Maha Nikaya, together with the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Senior Professor Kanattegoda Saddharatana Anunayaka, in the presence of university officials, academic staff, invited guests, parents, and well-wishers.

At the convocation, a total of 181 internal graduands and 243 external graduands were conferred degrees. A particularly noteworthy highlight of the convocation was the conferment of one Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, three Master of Arts Degrees, and three Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degrees.

Addressing the graduands, Senior Professor Medagampitiye Wijithadhamma Thero, through his Guest Lecture, congratulated them on their academic achievements and reminded them of their responsibility to serve as agents of hope during challenging and uncertain times.

At the convocation, Honorary Doctor of Philosophy Degrees were awarded to Most Venerable Makulewe Wimala Thero, Mahanayaka of the Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya, and Most Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thero, Anunayaka of the Malwathu Chapter of the Siyam Maha Nikaya with the approval of the Council.
