🇯🇵🇱🇰 A Memorable Educational & Cultural Field Visit | 17 September 2026 🌸
Our Japanese Language students enjoyed a meaningful educational and cultural field visit on 17 September 2026, combining learning, history, culture, and real-life Japanese experiences beyond the classroom.
The day began with a visit to the JICA Sri Lanka Office, where students learned about JICA’s activities in Sri Lanka and listened to presentations by JICA volunteers. Our sincere thanks to Ms. Mami Yamaoka, Senior Representative; Mr. Chaminda Ranasinghe, Programme Coordinator; Ms. Pradeepa Bandarnayake; and the entire JICA Sri Lanka team for their warm welcome, hospitality, thoughtful gifts, and continued support for our Japanese Language Programme. 🇯🇵🤝🇱🇰
We then visited the J.R. Jayewardene Centre and Museum, on the 120th birth anniversary of the late President J. R. Jayewardene. Students were especially interested in the exhibits related to Japan and the dedicated Japanese Museum. Heartfelt thanks to Mr. Madhawa Edirisinghe, Visiting Lecturer, SUSL, and Mr. Sanjeewa and the team for their valuable explanations and kind assistance.
The day concluded at Ginza Housen Japanese Restaurant, where all our students experienced Japanese cuisine at a Japanese restaurant for the first time. 🍱🥢
A special thank you to Ms. Shiina Iwakura, JICA Volunteer, for explaining Japanese table manners, dining etiquette, and the dishes clearly in Japanese. The food was delicious, and everyone truly enjoyed the experience. 🌸
We also sincerely thank Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka for providing transportation, and Prof. Rohan Abeywickrama, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, and Dr. Champa de Silva, former Head of the Department of Languages, for their support in making this field visit a success.
