The Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine is the successor higher educational Institution of Sri Lanka Siddhayurveda Medical College founded by Ayurveda Chakravarthi Pandith Gebrial Perera Wickramarachchi on 19 July 1929 as the center of learning Siddhayurveda traditions of indigenous medicine.

📢 Call for Papers – Sri Lanka Journal of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (SLJIKS)

The Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM) proudly announces the launch of the Sri Lanka Journal of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (SLJIKS) and invites researchers, academics, professionals, and scholars to submit original manuscripts for its inaugural issue.

SLJIKS is a peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing research on Indigenous Knowledge Systems and fostering dialogue between traditional wisdom and contemporary scholarship. The journal welcomes submissions from diverse disciplines with special reference to Indigenous Knowledge Systems.

University Staff Carrom Tournament 2026.

The Physical Education Unit of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine successfully organized the University Staff Carrom Tournament 2026 for the third consecutive year on 08th July 2026 at the Student Center.

The tournament brought together a large number of enthusiastic academic and non-academic staff members, fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and friendly competition within the University community. With its continued success, this tournament is set to become a valued annual tradition.

📚 Curriculum Revision Committee Consultation Meetings Successfully Conducted

The Department of Indigenous Medical Resources, Faculty of Indigenous Health Sciences and Technology (FIHST), Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM), successfully conducted two Curriculum Revision Committee Consultation Meetings on 17 May 2026 and 12 June 2026 at the Vice Chancellor's Mini Board Room and the Imbulgoda Premises to review and enhance the curricula of the BHSc (Hons) in Indigenous Pharmaceutical Technology and BSc (Hons) in Indigenous Medicinal Resources degree programmes.

The consultation meetings were guided by Dr. Jithya Wijesinghe, Dean, Faculty of Indigenous Health Sciences and Technology, under the leadership of Dr. Ruwan Perera, Head of the Department of Indigenous Medical Resources, with the active participation of the department's academic staff, undergraduate students, and an esteemed panel of experts.

The expert panel provided valuable recommendations and constructive feedback to further strengthen the curricula, ensuring that the degree programmes remain aligned with contemporary academic standards, industry expectations, and the evolving needs of the indigenous health sector.

The Department sincerely appreciates the valuable contributions of all committee members, experts, academic staff, and students whose participation contributed to the success of these consultation meetings.

Together, we remain committed to fostering academic excellence through continuous curriculum enhancement and quality assurance.
