Women’s Day Online Event 2021
" 21 Years in the life of women in the 21st Century “

This year as part of the women's day event Alliance Française de Kandy is organizing an online panel discussion and the theme is " 21 Years in the life of women in the 21st Century ". The event is on Sunday, 7th of March 2021 from 4:pm to 6:00pm.

Our most honorable Guests and Panelists are:
• Prof. Carmen Wickramagamage: Senior Professor in English at the University of Peradeniya. Carmen Wickramagamage is Senior Professor in English at the University of Peradeniya, where she teaches 18th and 19th century British Literature; American
Literature; Postcolonial Literature; Women’s Literature; and Translation Studies at the
undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Women’s issues and women’s rights has long
been a strong interest with her manifesting itself in her teaching, research and activism. Currently, she is Chairperson of the Committee to Monitor Sexual and Gender-Based Harassment and Sexual Violence of the University of Peradeniya.
• Ms. Namini Wijedasa: Award-winning Journalist: Editorial staff member at the Sunday Times newspaper, senior feature writer and an award winning journalist including in investigative journalism. She is also a member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and has served as a Director of the Press Complaints Commission of Sri Lanka.
• Prof. Shamala Kumar: Teaches at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Business management Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya.
Shamala Kumar teaches at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Business management, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya. Her areas of research span the domains of work and education. She completed her doctorate in industrial and organizational psychology at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA and received her professorship in 2016. Her work stems from a commitment to a just, democratic, and free system of education that is meaningful to all, irrespective of the person or group's class, economic status, ethnicity, language, religion, gender and sexual orientation, age, and disabilities.
• Mrs. Aurelia Collard: Cultural attachée / Ambassade de France à Sri Lanka et aux Maldives.
• Mrs. Rushma Mohammed: MPhil Clinical Psychology, Member of American Psychology Association; British Psychology Society. Rushma’s life goal is to make a positive impact in the lives of people by empowering individuals to make changes in their lives that’s wrought by stress. Therefore, she chose Psychology as her bachelors from HELP University, Malaysia where her research “War in the Eyes of Sri Lankan Children” which was presented at the Malaysian Psychology Conference. After which, she moved to Singapore to continue her psychotherapeutic training. Then, she furthered her psychotherapeutic training in SQU Hospital, Oman. Eventually, ending up in Sri Lanka where she spearheaded a team of students from the University of Peradeniya and Blue Rose Special needs school to have the inaugural children with special needs walk in Kandy in 2013. She then went on to pursue her MPhil in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colombo.
