Ms. K. Kasthuri, Lecturer (Prob.), Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, participated in a two-week international training program on Digital and Geospatial Technologies for Agricultural Monitoring and Decision Support, held at the world-renowned International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Patancheru, India, from 9–20 March 2026.

She received this opportunity under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) scholarship awarded through the Consulate General of India in Jaffna. The program, supported by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, brought together 35 participants from 18 countries and enhanced her skills in geospatial technologies, remote sensing, and digital tools.

The training strengthened her capacity to apply modern approaches in agricultural monitoring and decision-making, supporting sustainable and climate-smart agriculture.

2.1 Billion Rupees worthy JICA grant R&T complex and around the faculty of Agriculture Premises situation for five years, No single light working outside in the Night. venomous snakes and creatures moving place how students can walk in the night? It is required to connect or fixed outside lights that are controlled by security guard.

Roads... very poor conditions....difficult for transport.. No special budget consideration by the government... 30 Years war happened under developed place... need special consideration in the 2026 budget....

We are begging and wandering every administrations and relevant ministries to find solutions.. we are tired...

The Inaugural of Peradeniya-Jaffna Inter-University Agriculture Students’ Research Conference & Collaboration Initiative under the theme of “Cultivating Harmony, Harvesting Knowledge” on 16th and 17th January 2026.

The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, and the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, in collaboration with Sivanathan Laboratories Inc., USA, were organized a Conference and Collaboration Initiative under the theme “Cultivating Harmony, Harvesting Knowledge.” The event, titled The Inaugural of Peradeniya–Jaffna Inter-University Agriculture Students’ Research Conference, which held on 16th and 17th January 2026 at Reecha Resort, Iyakkachchi, Kilinochchi.

The inaugural session of the joint research program was graced by Hon. (Prof.) Chrishantha Abeysena, M.P., Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Robert Easter Emeritus President of the University of Illinois, USA. Prof. Sivalingam Sivanantha, CEO of Sivananthan Laboratories, USA, Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Chairman, University Grant Commission, Prof. Terrence Madhujith, Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Prof. Arulampalam Atputharajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Vavuniya, Prof. K. Pakeerathan, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, Prof. Barana Jayawardena, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya and Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, former Vice Chancellor, University of Peradeniya, Mr Kumar Rajapaksha, Chairman, Cosmic Technologies, Sri Lanka and Mr. Baskaran Kandiah, Owner and Managing Director of the ReeCha. Academic staff of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya and University of Jaffna, and University of Vavuniya, students from both Faculties, Agriculture, University of Peradeniya and University of Jaffna presented their valuable research outcome.
Technical Sessions of the conference were shared by Prof. Sarath Kodithuwakku (UoP), Prof. T. Sivananthawerl (UoP), Prof. S. Vasantharuba (UoJ), Dr. Mojith Ariyaratne (UoP), Dr. (Mrs) L. Pradheeban (UoJ), Dr. K. Jeyavanan (UoJ), Dr. S. Thatchaneshkanth (UoJ), and Dr. S. Sivashankar (UoJ).
The event was jointly coordinated by Prof. Chalinda K. Beneragama from Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya and Dr. K. Jeyavanan from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna.

Faculty of Agriculture Releases Second "பசுமை ஒளி" Newsletter
We're delighted to announce that the Outreach Committee of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna, has officially released its second issue of the "பசுமை ஒளி" newsletter!

The second edition of "பசுமை ஒளி" was launched on October 27, 2025, at the Faculty of Agriculture premises in Ariviyal Nagar, Kilinochchi.

The "பசுமை ஒளி" is specifically designed to:

Empower the Region: Serve as a bridge between academic research and practical field application, helping local farmers and citizens adopt innovations that enhance productivity and environmental stewardship.

Disseminate Knowledge: Deliver accessible, practical, and up-to-date information on modern and sustainable agricultural practices directly to farming communities and citizens of the region.

Introduce Our Work: Highlight the latest activities, research findings, and community engagement efforts led by the Outreach Committee and the Faculty.
