It was the 1960s and Sri Lanka was experiencing a booming economy and an industrial revolution after its post-colonial era. The first world war was over and Sri Lanka for the first time in almost five centuries was its own nation. Aloysius, or as he was commonly known in
the day "Aloysius Mudalali" (which means "merchant" in Sinhalese), saw the vast potential that the country was facing. So, in 1964 he opened up a three tier business, under the name 'Alcom Group of Companies'. This company had 3 sub sectors: Alcom Recruitment, Alcom Advertising & Alcom Travel. All three companies were independently run. My Grandfather understood the value of good service and knew that Sri Lanka was places at the epicentre of Asian trade. Services were the way forward. The company was an instant success and more than my grandfather had envisioned. In 2009, I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in MArketing and Management from Monash University (Clayton) in Melbourn, Australia. I was most eager to return to my country of birth and carry on the legacy of my Grandfather.
