The second phase of the inaugural construction camp of the Faculty of Technology commenced on 20th November 2023 for the undergraduates of the Construction Technology degree program. The second phase will be conducted as a six-day survey camp program at the KDU Southern Campus, Sooriyawewa. This hands-on learning experience is crucial in their academic journey. During this session, the students will be exposed to the Reconnaissance Survey, Topographic Survey, and Setting Out.

The second phase of the inaugural construction camp of the Faculty of Technology commenced on 20th November 2023 for the undergraduates of the Construction Technology degree program. The second phase will be conducted as a six-day survey camp program at the KDU Southern Campus, Sooriyawewa. This hands-on learning experience is crucial in their academic journey. During this session, the students will be exposed to the Reconnaissance Survey, Topographic Survey, and Setting Out.
The academic staff and academic supporting staff are guiding the students throughout the survey camp. Modern surveying equipment and software are being used to conduct the session.

Inaugural Construction Camp
The BET (Hons) curriculum in Construction Technology is designed to provide onsite training and hands-on experience to undergraduates to improve their practical skills.
The Construction Camp is scheduled to provide ample opportunities for students to consolidate and update their practical and theoretical knowledge in construction, in real-world situations and with real-world problems, and to enable them to learn and apply a variety of modern surveying instruments for foundation layout, as well as to operate heavy construction equipment.
Intake 39 undergraduates will participate in a two-week construction camp from 13th November 2023. The machinery training will be conducted at the Construction Equipment Training Centre (CETRAC), and the surveying camp will be conducted at KDU southern campus. The academic and academic support staff of the faculty will guide the students throughout the construction camp.

Department-Industry Consultative Board Meeting
The Department Industry Consultative Board (DICB) meeting of BET (Hons) in Construction Technology Degree programme offered by the Department of Engineering Technology was held on 07th November 2023 at KDU to discuss the latest industry developments and to explore ways to enhance the curriculum of the degree programme to meet the evolving needs of the industry.
The DICB meeting was attended by officials representing leading professional bodies of the construction industry and academic staff from the Department of Engineering Technology, KDU.
During this meeting, the industry representatives shared their insights and experiences with the academic staff, providing valuable real-world perspectives on the industry.
The meeting successfully concluded by highlighting the importance of continuous industry-academia collaboration, ensuring that the curriculum of the degree programme remains relevant and up-to-date.
