Though the Engineering Education in Kotelawala Defence University started far back in 1980, the Engineering Faculty was formally established only in October 2011. With its 6 Academic Departments and over 50 academic staff members, supported by visiting lecturers coming from University of Moratuwa, other Universities arround and the Industry, the Faculty conducts Engineering Degree programs in 9
key disciplines. This is the only Engineering Faculty in a state University offering Engineering Degrees in the specializations of Aeronautical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering and Bio-medical Engineering. The Faculty has opened admission for civilian students at a competitive fee and the students qualifying from A/L in August in a particular year can already start their academic work in January of the following year. Considering this and the fact that there are no disruptions whatsoever to the university academic calendar our students complete their undergraduate education well before their contemporaries in other state Universities.
