Massive Public Engagement at IGNITE '26

The exhibition site of IGNITE ’26 witnessed an enthusiastic turnout from the public, including school students, school leavers, parents, academics, industry representatives, and alumni—creating a vibrant atmosphere of curiosity and engagement.

Visitors explored a wide range of innovative engineering projects, while the Vice Chancellor of KDU, together with other distinguished guests, toured the exhibition and actively interacted with exhibitors. Student teams enthusiastically explained their ideas, research methodologies, and real-world applications, making the exhibition a truly interactive learning experience.

The exhibition showcased the creativity and technical depth of KDU undergraduates alongside talented school innovators from across the country.

Opening Ceremony of IGNITE ’26

The IGNITE ’26 Engineering Exhibition and Open Day commenced with a formal and inspiring Opening Ceremony, marking the beginning of a landmark event for the Faculty of Engineering, KDU.

The occasion was graced by Prof. Kapila Perera, Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Udayanga Hemapala, Secretary to the Ministry of Energy, who delivered the Keynote Address. Both speakers shared valuable insights on the role of engineering innovation in national development and the responsibility of universities in shaping future-ready engineers.

The ceremony was formally opened with welcome remarks by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thushara Weerawardane, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, who highlighted the vision behind IGNITE ’26 and the importance of research-driven, impact-oriented engineering education at KDU.

IGNITE ’26 thus set the tone for a day dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
