On this International Nurses Day 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️

To every nurse carrying a heavy heart today,

You show up for others even when your own spirit feels tired. You hold hands in silence, offer strength in moments of fear, and give hope when words fall short. Yet behind that courage, there are days of exhaustion, disappointment, and quiet pain that no one sees.

Please remember, your work is not ordinary. Your compassion changes lives in ways that cannot always be measured or recognized. Every small act of care, every moment of patience, every tear you hide… it all matters more than you think.

It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. It’s okay to pause. Even the strongest hearts need rest.

On this special day, we honor not only your strength, but also your humanity.

Stand tall in your purpose. Support each other. And never forget, you are not alone in this journey. Your dedication is powerful. Your presence is healing. And your resilience is inspiring.

With respect and gratitude,

A historic achievement🥋🏆

For the first time in the history of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences Taekwondo team has emerged as champions,a moment of immense pride for all of us.

This remarkable victory, led by our own Oshan Shayavinda from the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, who serves as the Captain of the FAHS Taekwondo team, is a true reflection of dedication, discipline, and teamwork. Notably, a significant number of team members are from our own Department, making this achievement even more special to us.

On behalf of the Department, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the entire team for bringing great honor and recognition to both our Faculty and our Department. You have truly made us proud.

Achievements like this remind us that education goes beyond the classroom, shaping well-rounded individuals through sports, leadership, and resilience.

Warmest congratulations once again to our champions, and best wishes to all our students for continued success.

Proud of Our Future Graduates : A Compassionate Initiative by Intake 41 – Nursing Students of KDU

We as the department are immensely proud to appreciate the outstanding initiative taken by Intake 41 – Nursing undergraduates who decided to use the money they collected for their annual batch trip to support schoolchildren affected by recent landslides and floods.

After thoughtful discussion among themselves, they collectively decided to stand in solidarity with their younger brothers and sisters who were affected by the recent landslides and floods. This decision truly reflects the core values of empathy, service, and humanity.

Through their self-initiated project titled “සෙනෙහසේ අත්වැල”, the students successfully organized a donation program at Ambalakanda Maha Vidyalaya, situated in the Aranayake area of the Kegalle District. Basic school necessities including books, pens, pencils, lunch boxes, water bottles, and school bags were donated to 72 students from Grade 1 to Grade 13 who were affected by the disaster.

This meaningful program was conducted with the kind permission and support of the Principal of Ambalakanda Maha Vidyalaya, Ven. Deiyagala Piyananda Thero, and was further strengthened by the generous guidance and assistance of their seniors. We are pleased to note that all members of Intake 41 actively participated, demonstrating excellent teamwork and commitment.

The program was successfully completed as planned on 19th December. On behalf of the Department, I extend my sincere appreciation to Intake 41 for this commendable effort. You have not only supported a community in need but have also set a remarkable example of leadership and social responsibility for others to follow.

Well done, Intake 41. You make us truly proud.

Let’s Stand Together 🇱🇰🇱🇰

Even a single bottle of water or a small packet of dry rations can bring hope and comfort to someone facing hardship. In moments like these, our true strength shines through when we stand together, support one another, and extend compassion to those who need it most.

All collected items will be carefully gathered and handed over to KDU on the 3rd of December for distribution in the affected areas, ensuring your contributions reach the families who are struggling during this difficult time.

Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and willingness to help.
Let us unite with one heart and one purpose to uplift our communities and bring relief to those in need. 🇱🇰💙
