Valedictorian thingssss 😁

As UL prepares for this historic graduation, Jamal’s achievement stands as proof that brilliance still shines in Liberia’s academic space.

The University of Liberia has unveiled the academic star of its 105th graduating class, as Jamal Ghoson takes the spotlight as Valedictorian and Dux of the graduating batch.

Known for his excellence both in leadership and academics, Jamal’s journey from Debate Captain to the top of his class reflects years of discipline, consistency, and determination.

With a remarkable cumulative GPA of 3.842, he graduates Summa Cum Laude, becoming the first UL Valedictorian to achieve this honor since 2019.

Once again, the College of Science has produced an academic gem, as Jamal majors in Biomedical Science under the Department of Biological Sciences. 😁

University of Liberia Resumes Activities

The University of Liberia (UL) will reopen on Monday, September 8, 2025, for normal academic and administrative activities. A revised academic calendar will be released by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

New Student Orientation begins Wednesday, September 10.

Classes are expected to start Monday, September 15, pending confirmation by Friday, September 12.

UL President Dr. Layli Maparyan welcomes all new and returning students and urges the student body to rely on official UL communication platforms for updates.

UL Debunks False Report on Student Dismissals

The University of Liberia (UL) has firmly denied viral social media claims that 8,000 students are set to be dropped for allegedly enrolling fraudulently. The administration labeled the report as “fake news” with no truth, aimed at creating panic and distracting students currently taking their final exams.

Cllr. Norris L. Tweah, Vice President for University Relations, clarified the issue during interviews on multiple radio stations, urging students and the public to disregard the false post.

UL encourages everyone to rely solely on official platforms, its website, page, and Lux Radio for accurate updates.

After a four-month investigation into academic fraud, including the case involving Commerce Inspector Dorr Cooper—UL President Dr. Maparyan confirmed that coordinated misconduct occurred across several departments. As a result, 8 employees have been dismissed, 1 suspended, and 2 cleared of wrongdoing.

Dr. Maparyan stressed that academic fraud undermines the university’s mission and announced a zero-tolerance policy going forward. Additional reforms include the formation of a permanent fraud investigation committee, the creation of a whistle-blower platform, a full overhaul of the Office of Enrollment Services, and stricter policies and awareness efforts to uphold academic integrity.

Dr. Maparyan Condemns Attack on VP of Student Affairs, Prof. Sekou Konneh

Dr. Maparyan has strongly condemned the recent violent actions by some members of SUP at the University of Liberia’s Fendall campus. The attack on Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Sekou Konneh, and the disruption of campus activities are serious violations of university rules and Liberian law. If confirmed that weapons were brought to campus, those involved will face immediate expulsion.

She reminded students that protests must remain peaceful and that political agitation has no place in disrupting the educational mission of the university. While SUP previously raised concerns about due process in student suspensions, Dr. Maparyan had already committed to investigating those issues. However, the situation escalated with physical attacks and threats, including a “Wanted” poster circulated online.

She emphasized that real change must be pursued through peaceful and lawful means. Violence only undermines progress. Dr. Maparyan called on nonviolent members of SUP to stand firm in peaceful advocacy, reminding all that a better University of Liberia can only be built through unity, respect, and responsibility.
