The Department is responsible for all degrees in both Archaeology and Classics. ent. The department maintains a highly respectable international profile. Its academic members regularly participate in international conferences and publish their research in academic journals and books. The Department collaborates with Heritage Malta and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage and supports the activities of the Malta Archaeological Society and of the Malta Classics Association.

A big thank you to our resident art connoisseur Jeanine Pisani for leading the "Spot the Classical Reference" quiz. It was incredible to watch our young Cosmonauts connect ancient tales with classic art pieces. They truly have a keen eye for detail! ๐Ÿ‘๏ธโค๏ธ

๐Ÿš€ Day 5 of Classical Cosmonauts is underway!
We kicked off our final day with a fascinating discussion on ancient communication, led by our indefatigable summer school coordinator, Maria Giuliana Fenech.
This paved the way for a fun, hands-on activity where our wonderful cosmonauts are now inscribing their very own ancient curse tablets! ๐Ÿ“œโœ๏ธ

Rewriting history? Yes, please! ๐Ÿ“œ

โœจOur Classical Cosmonauts finally got to playtest CITADELโ€”a video game where players try to find an alternative, happier ending to the tragic War of Troy.

The verdict? They completely loved it! They also gave us some brilliant feedback and potential improvements to work on. Watch them in action! ๐Ÿ‘‡

How do you compose music for a video game set in the world of Homer? ๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŽต

Our Classical Cosmonauts found out firsthand! We were thrilled to welcome the composer of CITADEL's soundtrack himself, musicologist and lecturer Dr Jeremy Coleman from the School of Performing Arts - University of Malta. He joined our young students to discuss the fascinating creative process behind bringing a Homeric video game setting to life through sound. ๐Ÿ›๏ธโœจ

Video game testing meets epic storytelling! ๐ŸŽฎโš”๏ธ Our Classical Cosmonauts dove into a playtest session for our CITADEL video game, starting with Andrew Debono Cauchi's spirited retelling of the War of Troy, followed by a lively class debate entitled: Was Helen really the cause of the Trojan War? ๐Ÿ›๏ธ
We are thrilled to develop this project under the umbrella of the EU Culture Programme! ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

After student volunteers helped re-explain the Ancient Greek alphabet and its aspirants, the class hit the courtyard for break time with a twist: practicing writing their names as Greek transliterations. โœ๏ธโ˜€๏ธ
