💔 A Call for Compassion and Action from Piton State College
My dearest fellow students, staff, the entire Piton State College community, and our Facebook Gems!
It is with a profound sense of sorrow and alarm that I address you today. The tragic news of two young lives lost to su***de in Mauritius over the past week has shaken all of us. As the President of the Gender Equality Movement at PSC, my heart aches not only for the victims and their grieving families but also for every young person who may be silently struggling.
We must pause and acknowledge this deep, collective pain. Every life lost is a light extinguished from our future, and we must commit to ensuring that no other student, no other young person, reaches a point of such utter despair.
Our movement for equality calls us to look beyond simplistic divisions and recognize the unique burdens placed on all genders:
The Dignity of a Girl is Not a a Joke, To our young women, you are constantly facing immense, often unfair, pressure. From maintaining a perfect image to navigating relational abuse, cyberbullying, or academic stress, your value is constantly challenged. Let me be clear: Your dignity is absolute, sacred, and non-negotiable. No comment, no rumour, no social media post, and certainly no person has the right to diminish your worth. We stand ready to support you against all forms of harassment and degradation.
The Mental Health of a Boy is Not a Joke, To our young men, we see the heavy toll that the expectation to be "strong," "stoic," and "unemotional" takes on you. This pressure to constantly bottle up pain is dangerous. It is brave, not weak, to express fear, sadness, and vulnerability. Your mental health is just as critical as your physical health. We are dismantling the outdated myth that a real man must suffer in silence. Your feelings matter, and your life is irreplaceable.
You Are Not Alone!!
To every student at Piton State College and to every girl or boy out there who is carrying a secret burden: Please, I beg you, do not carry it alone.
The pressure of studies, exams, family expectations, and social life can feel like a crushing weight. But despair is a temporary emotion, and life is vast and full of possibilities that you cannot see from the bottom of a dark moment. There is always hope, and there are always people who care.
Look Up and Speak Out, Talk to a trusted teacher, your Rector, a parent, or a friend. Use the words: "I am not okay” - it’s free to use.
Be a Lifeline, If you see a friend struggling, withdrawing, or posting troubling messages, do not wait. Reach out, listen without judgment, and encourage them to seek professional help. Your simple act of care could be a lifeline - that too is free of cost.
Piton State College's Gender Equality Movement is dedicated to creating a campus culture (2026) where every single student feels seen, valued, and safe. We are committed to fostering open conversations and ensuring that support is available to all, regardless of gender. But for now, Our DM is open to all of you, please reach out if you need help! Su***de is not a joke!
