7 January 2026 | Academic Visit from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) to UniMAP

This morning, CERE UniMAP welcomed students and lecturers from Universiti Malaysia Kelantant (UMK) under the Environmental Analytics Programme, Faculty of Earth Science, for an academic visit focused on renewable energy and sustainable campus practices.

The programme began with a briefing session introducing the roles of the Fakulti Kejuruteraan & Teknologi Elektrik Unimap (FKTE), the Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy (CERE), and the Centre for Sustainable Campus Energy Management (COSCEM) in advancing research, innovation, and Malaysia’s energy transition agenda. The session highlighted how academic research, facilities, and sustainability initiatives are translated into practical applications.

The visit continued at the UniMAP Center for Photovoltaic (UCPV), where participants were exposed to photovoltaic technologies and ongoing research activities. The session was joined by Assoc. Prof. Ir Dr. Shamshul Bahar Yaakob, Dean of FKTE, together with CERE research fellows. The engagement provided opportunities for discussion and knowledge sharing between academics and students. Special appreciation is extended to Ts. Dr. Noor Janatun Naim for her coordination and contribution in making this visit a success.

Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy (CERE) continues to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry. The session, “Demand-Driven Research: Unlocking Public Private Research Network (PPRN) Grant Opportunities”, introduces participants to funding pathways that connect research expertise with real industry needs. This initiative ensures that solutions developed by researchers address pressing challenges faced by Malaysian businesses, particularly in the renewable energy sector.

The PPRN Grant by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) provides a platform for innovation that enhances productivity, fosters industrial growth, and ensures research outputs reach beyond the lab. By unlocking these opportunities, UniMAP empowers researchers and industries to co-create technologies that contribute to sustainable development, responsible innovation, and circular practices.

This initiative also demonstrates its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—advancing SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through stronger industry-academia collaboration, supporting SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by fostering demand-driven innovation, and contributing to SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through sustainable research practices.

A special appreciation goes to Associate Professor Ts.
