8) Ph.D (by Research) (R/520/8/0053) 06/19 (A3415)

* All of our programmes have obtained approval and accreditation by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC), Engineering Technician Accreditation Council (ETAC), and of course the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). FET offers opportunities for research over a wide range of disciplines. At present, there are 7 engineering based research centres in Multimedia University, namely Centre for Remote Sensing and Surveillance Technologies (CRSST), Centre for Advanced Mechanical and Green Technology (CAMGT), Centre for Advanced Robotics (CAR), Centre for Sustainable Communication and IoT (CSCI), Centre for e-Health (CeH), Centre for Engineering Computational Intelligence (CECI) and Centre for Manufacturing and Environment Sustainability (CMES). We aim for international recognition in the Research, Innovation and Commercialization (R&I&C) community, and we aim to achieve an established record of outstanding innovation where fundamental research can be transformed into products of commercial significance. Extensive industrial contacts have ensured that collaboration and financial support on a large scale are available. The distinct features of the Faculty are:

Course content:
At this faculty, the training is geared towards various technologies leading to multimedia applications. The course syllabi are carefully designed to meet the needs of the industries. Mode of delivery:
Besides traditional classroom instruction, emphasis is also placed on the use of multimedia technology in lecture delivery and hands-on experiments using interactive computer-based training concept. Open interaction:
At this faculty, student-student, student-faculty, student-industry and faculty-industry interactions are encouraged. Through open interaction and discussion by great minds, bright ideas are bound to be created and conceived. Research-based:
Students of MMU are encouraged to be involved in the research activities, for we believe that their young and brilliant minds will bring new dimensions to the research activities in the Faculty. State-of-the-Art Facilities:
The collaborative work between industries and the faculty enables the faculty to constantly upgrade its facilities through sponsorship from the industries and internal funding.

On 3 June 2026, 60 students participated in a Technical Talk and Factory Visit at Infineon Technologies (Melaka) as part of Infineon Week 2026.

The programme brought together 36 students from FET and 24 students from FIST for an immersive industry experience. Students gained valuable insights into semiconductor technologies, manufacturing processes, and career opportunities through a technical sharing session and guided factory tour led by Infineon engineers.

From automotive and power management solutions to IoT security applications, participants were introduced to the innovative technologies shaping the future of the semiconductor industry. The factory tour also provided a firsthand look at key manufacturing operations and quality assurance processes within a world-class semiconductor facility.

A heartfelt thank you to Infineon Technologies (Melaka) for hosting our students and supporting MMU's commitment to bridging academia and industry.

We were honoured to welcome a delegation of 20 representatives from the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India.

The visit was facilitated through FET’s valued strategic industry partner, Infineon Technologies, which played a key role in connecting NIELIT and MMU. The programme began with an exchange of institutional introductions, where both MMU and NIELIT shared their academic strengths, initiatives, and areas of expertise. This was followed by a productive discussion exploring opportunities for collaboration in education, research, talent development, and technological innovation.

A significant highlight of the visit was the exchange of tokens of appreciation between Prof. Dr. Hishamuddin Ismail, MMU Campus Director, and Dr. Jayaraj U. Kidav, Executive Director of NIELIT, symbolising the commitment of both institutions towards building meaningful and long-term partnerships.

The delegation also toured FET’s laboratories and the Infineon Corner, gaining insights into the faculty’s teaching and learning ecosystem, research capabilities, and industry engagement initiatives.

This visit marks an important milestone in strengthening international academic and industry linkages, while paving the way for future collaborations between MMU, NIELIT, and Infineon Technologies in advancing technology education, innovation, and talent development.

We extend our sincere appreciation to NIELIT and Infineon Technologies for making this engagement possible and look forward to future collaborations that will benefit students, researchers, and the broader technology ecosystem ⭐
