Thank you for joining this exclusive virtual community. We spent a very significant part of our lives in IMU with a group of very special people. And lots of effort has been made to keep this fellowship alive. The task at hand is not easy as all of us are geographically dispersed across the world. And many are preoccupied with their career undertakings and work. Therefore, having an online Alumni

community seemed to be the best way to keep this fellowship vibrant, as the Internet transcends all existing geographical boundaries, plus it is also very accessible and extremely effective. This Alumni site was launched on the 10th anniversary of IMU, 29 Nov 2002. To date, we have more than 3000 members have signed up. And the numbers are still growing. We hope that you will give us your full support by participating in the forum, contributing your thoughts and voicing out your opinions.

Are you passionate about advancing infectious disease diagnostics and translating research into real-world healthcare solutions?

IMU University is seeking a highly motivated PhD Candidate in Medical and Health Sciences to join a landmark multidisciplinary research project at the intersection of academia, clinical medicine and industry.

Led by Professor Dr. James Koh, Deputy Dean of IMU University and Infectious Disease Specialist, the project brings together researchers from IMU’s Institute for Research, Development and Innovation (IRDI), AGTC Genomics Sdn Bhd, and the University of Malaya.

🔬 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭
The project aims to develop and clinically validate an integrated diagnostic platform for the rapid and accurate detection of infectious diseases, with the goal of improving laboratory efficiency and strengthening clinical diagnostics.

💰 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠
The project is supported by a prestigious RM3.46 million grant, comprising RM2.93 million from MOSTI’s TeD PEMACU 2.0 and RM527,060 in industry matching from AGTC Genomics Sdn Bhd.

🎓 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐖𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐫
Candidates seeking enrolment into the PhD in Medical and Health Sciences programme should have:

• A Master’s Degree in a related science field accepted by the University Senate; OR
• A Direct Entry Pathway with an outstanding Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with First-Class Honours (CGPA 3.67 or above), subject to internal assessment; and
• A strong interest or background in Genomics, Molecular Diagnostics, Microbiology or Clinical Medicine.

Having recently walked the same path, your honest reflections, practical advice, and words of encouragement meant so much to our graduating students as they prepare to begin the next chapter of their medical careers following their Oath-Taking Ceremony. Three days. New experiences. Meaningful connections. Countless memories. 💙

From 24–26 July 2026, our IMU alumni community came together at Holiday Villa Resort & Beachclub Langkawi for a memorable getaway filled with learning, networking, relaxation, and giving back.

From getting creative and learning about sustainability through an upcycling workshop with 𝗘𝗸𝗵𝗮 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗮𝘄𝗶, to reconnecting with fellow alumni over a memorable dinner, every moment brought our community closer together.

The getaway also included exciting activities, a spectacular fire show, lucky draws, and a meaningful CSR beach cleaning activity in collaboration with the hotel — reminding us that even small actions can make a difference when we come together. 🌱🌊

Most importantly, the IMU Alumni Great Getaway was about coming together as one community — reconnecting with old friends, making new connections, and creating memories that will last long after the weekend ended.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this getaway so special. We look forward to seeing you again at our next alumni adventure! 💙

✨ What an inspiring afternoon!

A huge thank you to Malaysia-Scotland Medical Partnership Malaysia-England Medical Partnership IMU Alumni UK Chapter for making the 3rd IMU Global Alumni Talk 2026: UK Series such a memorable success.

It was wonderful to see our alumni return to IMU to share their journeys, offer practical tips on studying and living in the UK, and answer students' questions with such generosity and honesty.

From navigating university life to settling into a new country and preparing for future careers, our alumni reminded us that the best advice often comes from those who have walked the path before us.

Seeing students and alumni connecting, exchanging stories, and building new relationships during the networking session was a wonderful reminder that the IMU community extends far beyond graduation.

To all our alumni who gave their time to inspire and mentor the next generation, thank you for giving back.

𝗔 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗠𝗨 𝗔𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝗶. 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲.

Every great institution is built on the vision, sacrifice, and generosity of extraordinary individuals. Their legacy is reflected not only in the buildings they leave behind, but also in the generations of lives they have transformed. Today marks a defining milestone for the IMU Alumni Association (AAIMU).

For the first time in our Association's history, IMU Alumni is proud to launch a Legacy Giving Initiative to establish the Ong Kok Hai Executive Lecture Theatre Naming Fund—a meaningful opportunity for alumni and friends of IMU to honour one of Malaysia's most respected pioneers in medical education and healthcare.

This journey began with a shared vision to preserve a legacy that has shaped countless lives.

Representing AAIMU, Dr Paul Chan Hong Kit (President), Dr Wong Yi Kai (Treasurer), and Ms Natalie Chin (Assistant Secretary) met with Professor Gerard George (Managing Director), Ms Christy (Chief Operating Officer), and Puan Noraidah (Registrar) to explore how the alumni community could come together to bring this vision to life.

To formally commence this historic initiative, Academician Professor Emerita Datuk Dr Asma Ismail, FASc, together with Puan Noraidah, visited Mrs Pat Ong (née Yap Lian See) to seek the blessing and support of the Ong family. Their wholehearted endorsement marked the official beginning of this initiative and reflects our shared commitment to preserving Prof Ong's remarkable legacy for generations to come.

The accompanying photographs capture two significant milestones in this journey—our early discussions in the newly completed Ong Kok Hai Executive Lecture Theatre, where university leadership and alumni representatives envisioned this initiative, and the memorable visit to Mrs Pat Ong, whose support transformed that vision into an official campaign.

Prof Ong Kok Hai was never simply a pioneer.

He became one of Malaysia's most treasured figures in medical education, healthcare innovation, and service. As one of the visionaries behind IMU and the inventor of the Typhidot diagnostic test, he inspired generations of doctors and healthcare professionals who continue to carry forward his spirit of excellence, compassion, and service.

Yet his greatest legacy extends beyond medicine.

Through Rainbow Bridge Malaysia, Prof Ong devoted his life to creating opportunities for those in need, reminding us that true leadership is measured not by personal achievement, but by the lives we uplift.

The Ong Kok Hai Executive Lecture Theatre will be more than a state-of-the-art learning space. It will stand as a lasting tribute to a man whose vision, humility, and unwavering commitment to service continue to inspire future generations.

This is more than a naming initiative. It is an opportunity for every IMU alumnus, partner, and friend of the University to become part of a lasting legacy that has profoundly shaped our institution and the healthcare profession.

Together, let us honour a remarkable pioneer whose life's work reminds us that the greatest legacy we leave behind is not what we achieve for ourselves—but what we choose to give back.
