AMMP Centre had the privilege of hosting a meaningful visit from Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia. We had a constructive discussion with Dr. Eng. Ananta Adhi Wardana and Dr Gunawan Setia Prihandana, on potential joint research collaborations and giving a guided tour of our latest research facilities.

Dr. Eng. Ananta is a lecturer at Robotics and Artificial Engineering, Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline while Dr Gunawan’s research interest is in Advanced Manufacturing Processes and Nanoporous Membrane.

We are very honoured to showcase our current research work in:

Two members from the Centre of Advanced Manufacturing and Material Processing (AMMP Centre), Universiti Malaya — Dr. Mohd Fadzil Jamaludin and Dr. Tuan Zaharinie Tuan Zahari — participated in an industrial visit to Sipro Plastic Industries Sdn Bhd in Serendah, Selangor, organised by the Universiti Malaya Centre of Innovation and Enterprise (UMCIE).

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Datuk Noraini Soltan, Managing Director of Sipro Plastic Industries, together with her top management team. The visit began with a fruitful discussion on potential areas of industrial collaboration that Sipro could explore together with academia, spanning materials innovation, process improvement, and applied research opportunities. The engagement concluded with an insightful tour of the company's production facility, giving our members a first-hand look at their manufacturing operations.

AMMP Centre had a lunch and reconnecting session with Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sarhan. It was truly a pleasure catching up with him, from reminiscing about the projects we worked on and the challenges we overcame together, to sharing our life updates and experiences since then, it was a meaningful reminder of how valuable professional relationships can be.

We are looking forward to more opportunities to collaborate, exchange ideas, and create something meaningful together in the near future. Here's to new beginnings, continued growth, and partnerships that bring out the best in all of us. Wishing Prof. Dr. Ahmed Sarhan nothing but continued success, and hoping this won't be our last catch-up!

A delegation from the AMMP Centre, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya — led by Dato' Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor — recently paid an Industry Visit to UMPEDAC (UM Power Energy Dedicated Advanced Centre) at Wisma R&D.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Prof. Ts. Dr. Jeyraj Selvaraj, Executive Director of UMPEDAC, with the technical presentation delivered by Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Ahmad and his research team.

The visit brought together a great mix of industry and academic partners, including representatives from Makerspace@UM, The Malaysian Oil, Gas & Energy Services Council (MOGSC), Malaysian Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC), the Faculty of Engineering, TNB Research, and Energy Dot Com Sdn Bhd.

The morning began with an introduction to UMPEDAC, followed by an insightful presentation on Green Hydrogen research and innovation. Highlights included:

🔥 Pioneering hydrogen combustion research in Malaysia
❄️ The world's first hydrogen-fired v***r compression/absorption refrigerator
🔧 Development of hydrogen-based incinerators for waste management
✈️ Ambitious plans for a hydrogen-powered twin jet engine drone
🦠 Hydrogen's antibacterial applications for aquaculture and water treatment
🔬 Advanced materials for hydrogen turbines and permeation barriers
⚡ Simplified zero-gap electrolyzer designs for hydrogen generation

The session sparked a lively Q&A before the group headed over for a hands-on tour of UMPEDAC's research labs, seeing these innovations up close.

A big thank you to Prof. Jeyraj, Dr. Shakeel, and the entire UMPEDAC team for their warm hosting and inspiring showcase of Malaysia's hydrogen technology journey — truly a glimpse into a cleaner, greener energy future.

AMMP Centre has hosted the 2026 Engineering Research Symposium at Block L Level 5.

A 3-hour session in a professional venue to share research findings with the engineering community. With the participation of around 20 students and scholars, the research symposium provided a meaningful platform for an in-depth intellectual discussion, knowledge sharing, thoughtful discussion, and academic collaboration.

Filled with inspiring presentations, innovative ideas, and meaningful discussions, the topics explored is diverse including mechanical engineering, manufacturing process, materials, simulations, coating technology, and et cetera.

Thank you to all presenters, experts, and organizers for making this event a platform for knowledge sharing and expanding academic excellence. Together, we continue to advance research and create impact for the future.

AMMP Centre has joined the 2026 ASEAN MakersFest organized by STEM 4 All Makerspace and Makerspace@UM at Kompleks Perdanasiswa. We focused on displaying a few samples from Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). WAAM is a metal 3D printing technology that uses an electric arc to melt metal wire, building parts layer-by-layer via robotic arms.

AMMP also collaborated with UM Racing Team to exhibit their EV Car that has won two categories in a tournament at Litar Perlumbaan Dato Sagor Perak. The display of the car has attracted visitors, especially students to get a wider explanation about this innovation.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Prof. Dr. Sharifuddin Md Zain who is the Director of Makerspace@UM, and accompanied by Mr. Ramesh Pillai the Director of Programmes, STEM 4 All Makerspace. It was a brief formality for presentation of certificates of appreciation to all participants, and a photo session.

From inspiring innovations to meaningful conversations, the event was a true celebration of creativity, collaboration, and forward-thinking ideas. We’re proud to have been part of such a dynamic platform, connecting with passionate makers, industry leaders, and changemakers.

A big thank you to everyone who made this event a success — the energy, support, and shared vision made it truly unforgettable. Here’s to building, creating, and growing together!

The Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) Scholarship is now open for applications from 4 May 2026 until 12 June 2026. This scholarship is sponsored by the Government of Malaysia and is dedicated to outstanding graduates from MTCP recipient countries to pursue full-time Master’s studies in Malaysia for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The MTCP Scholarship supports:

- Full-time Master’s Degree (September/October 2026 intake)
- Duration between 24 to 36 months
- Any mode of study: Coursework, Mixed Mode, or Research

While studying in Malaysia, scholars will gain advanced knowledge and skills that can contribute to the development of their home countries, with opportunities to engage in cutting-edge research at centres such as AMMP.

AMMP Centre is delighted to welcome Alexandre Duroc from University of Montpellier, France as an intern research assistant under the supervision of Professor Ir. Dr. Farazila binti Yusof.

Alexandre arrived at AMMP Centre on 20th April 2026. He will be with us until around August 2026, and is now stationed at Block C Level 4, Faculty of Engineering.

We look forward to share the learning journey!

We were pleased to host an initial meeting between AMMP Centre researchers and representatives from The Jungle Coffee, Rene and Yasin, to explore potential avenues for academic-industry collaboration.

The discussion focused on opportunities in processing improvement and automation with AI, areas that hold strong potential for innovation and real-world impact. We were especially inspired by The Jungle Coffee’s social enterprise mission, which strongly aligns with Universiti Malaya’s broader commitment to creating meaningful societal value through knowledge, innovation, and community engagement.

During the session, we shared several possible pathways for industry to collaborate with students and academia, including Industrial Design Projects (IDP), student internships, Final Year Projects (FYP), and engagement through engineering clubs. For larger-scale initiatives, we also discussed the potential for joint funding applications and matching grants to support more strategic and impactful collaborations.

We were also glad to introduce Zecttron Sdn Bhd, University Malaya's spin-off company, which brings expertise in developing customised machines and technology solutions tailored to industry needs.

We look forward to future discussions and the possibility of building a meaningful collaboration that bridges academia, industry, and social impact.
