Yukazan ROVING TRUCK MAKES A STOP AT UPM

20 August 2026, Universiti Putra Malaysia – The Yukazan Roving Truck made a special stop at the Sultan Abdul Samad Library, UPM yesterday, bringing an engaging and enjoyable experience to the UPM community. The programme was organised in collaboration between the Centre for Industrial Relation and Network, CiRNeT UNIVERSITI PUTRA MALAYSIA, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Yukazan, with the aim of strengthening university-industry engagement and creating opportunities for the UPM community to connect directly with an industry partner.

Students and staff had the opportunity to discover Yukazan’s products and services, enjoy free ice cream, and take advantage of exclusive promotional deals. The programme also provided Yukazan with a platform to introduce its range of everyday self-care products to the UPM community. This collaboration highlights the mutual benefits of university-industry partnerships by providing greater industry exposure to the UPM community while creating opportunities for Yukazan to engage with students and staff in a campus setting.

CiRNeT UPM looks forward to continuing meaningful collaborations with industry partners through initiatives that bring value and strengthen connections between UPM and the industry.

Great research doesn’t automatically become great innovation.

Malaysia has no shortage of talented researchers, promising technologies or research outputs.

The harder question is: what happens after the research?

In my latest article, “Crossing the Valley: Why Great University Research Dies Before It Reaches the Market,” I explore the often-overlooked “valley of death” — the gap between a promising laboratory result and a technology that is ready for real customers, real investment and real-world deployment.

The problem is rarely the quality of the science.

It is the handoff.

Between TRL 4 and TRL 7, technologies often need something that neither traditional research funding nor conventional private investment is designed to provide: prototyping, pilot projects, market validation, regulatory support, industry partnerships and patient capital.

This is where we need to rethink how Malaysia approaches research commercialisation.

Instead of asking only “How much research are we producing?”, we should also ask:

“How effectively are we converting research into impact?”

That is why platforms such as URIIS 2026 - University Research & Innovation Investment Summit matter.
