A Heartfelt Farewell and Thank You to Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Chuah Joon Huang 🎓✨

On 27 February 2026, the IEM-SUC Student Section bids a fond farewell to our SUC President, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Chuah Joon Huang, as he completes his remarkable tenure. We were so honored to present him with a token of our appreciation for everything he has done for us.

During our farewell chat, Prof. Chuah recalled his early days starting out as a Secretary in his own IEM Student Section, reminding us of the immense value and importance of serving on the student committee. His story is a powerful reminder of how foundational student leadership can be for our future careers.

His final piece of advice to us was simple but deeply powerful:
"Study hard, be proud to be an engineer." 🚀

Thank you for your tremendous dedication and for always championing the IEM-SUC Student Section, Prof. Chuah. Wishing you endless success in all your future endeavors!

Project Overview: The ObstaSense

The ObstaSense is a revolutionary intelligent assistive innovation device designed to enhance the independence, safety, and mobility of individuals with visual impairment and the elderly. Through the power of technology, the project aims to improve quality of life and promote the development of a more inclusive society.

The team’s video was officially broadcast on 3 January 2026 during INNOVATHON® Season 3 · Episode 5, where the team presented and demonstrated their innovative solution in full.

The team video will be uploaded to the official INNOVATHON website on 6 January 2026 for public viewing and sharing. Members of the public may access and share the video via the following link:

工程与资讯科技学院(FEIT)欣然宣布，电机与电子工程系属下的电机与电子工程专业文凭课程，成功获得马来西亚工程师局（BEM）属下工程技术认证委员会（ETAC）连续六年课程认证 （2026至2031年）。 👏👏🎊

此项荣誉不仅象征着本校在课程品质、产业需求与技术人才培养方面的卓越表现，同时也再次肯定了本校在推动工程技术教育领域之重要角色与贡献。

✨ [Event Recap] Bridging Horizons: SP x SUC Cultural Exchange Programme 🇸🇬🤝🇲🇾

On 16 December 2025, the IEM-SUC Student Section proudly organized and hosted the Singapore Polytechnic (SP) - Southern University College (SUC) Student Cultural Exchange Programme.

We were delighted to welcome the delegation from Singapore Polytechnic, accompanied by the representative from Millet Group. It was a memorable day of cross-border learning and connection!

We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who made this event a resounding success:

🏛️ Guest of Honor: A heartfelt thank you to SUC President, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Chuah Joon Huang for officiating the event with an inspiring opening speech, and to Prof. Dr. Hishamuddin Bin Jamaluddin for gracing us with his presence.

🎉诚挚祝贺工程与资讯科技学院研究生邝福权同学荣获国际奖项🎊

工程与资讯科技学院谨此向本院研究生邝福权同学致以最诚挚的祝贺，恭贺其在国际创新竞赛中取得卓越成就。

邝福权为工程科学硕士研究生，成功荣获棕榈油创新挑战赛（Palm Oil Innovation Challenge）特别奖——“最具科技先进性创新奖”。该奖项于2025年12月10日在马来西亚国民大学学术城科技学院大礼堂举行的“2025年东盟青年棕榈油可持续发展领袖计划（ASEAN Youth Leaders in Palm Oil Sustainability, AYLPOS 2025）”活动中颁发。

AYLPOS 2025 由马来西亚棕榈油局—国民大学（MPOB–UKM）捐赠讲座主办，并与棕榈油生产国理事会（CPOPC）合作，同时获得马来西亚棕榈油局（MPOB）及种植与原产业部（Ministry of Plantation and Commodities）联合举办。该计划为一项具战略意义的区域性平台，旨在促进东盟青年学生之间的合作，强化能力建设，培育青年领袖，并提升对棕榈油产业可持续发展的认知与重视。

本届棕榈油创新挑战赛共收到78项参赛作品，参赛者不仅来自东盟国家，亦包括孟加拉、巴布亚新几内亚、巴基斯坦、柬埔寨及日本等国家。邝福权同学的研究项目在原创性、技术先进性及应用潜能方面表现突出，与竞赛宗旨高度契合，最终脱颖而出，荣获特别奖项。

工程与资讯科技学院再次向邝福权同学表示热烈祝贺，并期许其在未来的研究与创新道路上持续取得更辉煌的成果。🎉👏👏👏

🎉We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. William Kwong F**k Chen, a postgraduate student from the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT), on his outstanding achievement. 🎊

Mr. William Kwong F**k Chen, a Master of Engineering Science (by Research) candidate, was selected as a recipient of the Palm Oil Innovation Challenge – Special Award, under the category of The Most Technologically Advanced Innovation Award. The award was presented during the ASEAN Youth Leaders in Palm Oil Sustainability (AYLPOS 2025) programme, held on 10 December 2025 at the Auditorium Akademia Siber Teknopolis, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

AYLPOS is organised by the MPOB–UKM Endowment Chair in collaboration with the Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC), and jointly organised by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities. The programme serves as a strategic platform to promote regional cooperation among ASEAN students, with the aim of capacity building, fostering youth leadership, and enhancing awareness of sustainability within the palm oil industry.

The Palm Oil Innovation Challenge received a total of 78 submissions from ASEAN member countries, as well as participants from Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Japan. Mr. William’s research project demonstrated exceptional originality and strong practical potential, aligning closely with the objectives of the competition, which led to his selection for the Special Award.

Once again, we congratulate Mr. William Kwong F**k Chen on this remarkable accomplishment and wish him continued success in his research endeavours.👏👏👏👏🎊👏🎊🎉
