🏆NUST students amongst top winners at National Research Symposium Awards

A total of 21 awards were presented at the National Students’ Research Symposium 2026, organised by the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC). There were six at PhD level, eight at master’s level and seven at honours level, recognising research excellence among students from NUST and other tertiary education institutions across the country.

The awards ceremony concluded three days of research presentations, dialogue and learning under the theme “Harnessing AI to Catalyse Transformative Research: Empowering the Next Generation of Innovators.”

Amongst the winners was Justina Ambuga-Andreas, Lecturer and Researcher, who received the Best Researcher Award at PhD Level in the Engineering thematic area.

Her research explores the enablers and barriers influencing the adoption of lean manufacturing practices among Namibian manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“This recognition is both humbling and motivating, and it strengthens my commitment to conducting rigorous, relevant research that contributes meaningfully to Namibia’s industrial development,” she said.

🇳🇦🇷🇺NUST Strengthens Dialogue on Industry–Academia Collaboration in Russia

The Russian-African Raw Materials Dialogue recently took place in Russia. The engagement is a strategic international forum promoting cooperation between Russia and African nations in mineral resources, mining management and engineering education.

The NUST Vice-Chancellor, Prof Frednard Gideon, attended the event together with the Chief Legal Advisor, Mr Joshua Kaumbi, and Prof Harmony Musiyarira, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Build Environment. During the discussions, Prof Gideon was singled him out as a pioneer in bridging the gap between industry and academia, highlighting his passion for establishing learning factories and industrial parks.
