ORIENT 94.5 FM SHOWCASES EOCNS AS A BEACON OF HOPE IN HEALTHCARE EDUCATION
Listeners of Nigeria Now on Orient 94.5 FM, Owerri, tuned in on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, to an engaging discussion spotlighting the future of healthcare education in Nigeria.
Special guests included Mrs. Anthonia Arua, Provost of the Eastern Oak College of Nursing Sciences (EOCNS), Abakaliki, and Mr. Obasi Chukwu, Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (Ebonyi State Council) and visiting lecturer at EOCNS.
Mrs. Arua emphasized the urgent need to expand access to nursing and midwifery education in order to address Nigeria’s rising demand for healthcare professionals. She noted that EOCNS is uniquely positioned to meet this need, having secured approval and accreditation from both the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). With these approvals, EOCNS stands among the select institutions in the country authorized to offer programmes leading to the Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Midwife (RM), National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) qualifications.
On the issue of affordability and quality, Mr. Chukwu reassured listeners that the College combines world-class training with affordable fees, enabling students from diverse backgrounds to pursue their healthcare ambitions. “We want to produce not just nurses, but globally employable healthcare leaders,” he stated.
The programme also highlighted that admissions are currently open for the 4-year ND–HND General Nursing programme. Prospective candidates are required to have five O’Level credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (in one or two sittings), along with a minimum UTME score of 140. Applicants were encouraged to take advantage of the College’s unique opportunities by applying promptly.
Several callers phoned in during the live session to commend EOCNS for its smooth admission process, serene learning environment, highly qualified faculty, and excellent hostel facilities.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Arua reaffirmed the College’s mission:
“At Eastern Oak, we are not just training nurses and midwives; we are shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals who will make a difference in Nigeria and the world.”
She urged interested candidates to call 0810 082 8004 or 0903 082 9076, or visit the College website at www.easternoak.org for guidance.
