The week-long programme, held recently, featured a series of physical, intellectual, and community-based activities designed to strengthen the operational readiness of cadets while fostering a culture of safety on campus. The event was coordinated under the leadership of Cadet Soyinka Omosewa.

Activities commenced with intensive cadet training and parade drills, which focused on physical conditioning, safety protocol simulations, and tactical exercises. The sessions recorded impressive participation from cadets, while reinforcing teamwork, discipline, endurance, and emergency response skills required for safety operations within the University environment.

FUNAAB Commemorates 2026 World Bee Day, Advocates Peaceful Coexistence with Honey Bees

As the world commemorates the 2026 World Bee Day, today, May 20, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has reiterated the importance of honey bees to food security, biodiversity, and ecosystem sustainability, while calling on members of the University Community to peacefully coexist with the valuable pollinators.

Honey bees, according to experts, are not naturally aggressive towards humans but are largely defensive in nature, especially when they perceive threats to their colonies. What is often described as conflict between bees and humans is usually a misunderstanding arising from shared environmental spaces.

Speaking on the significance of the global celebration, experts noted that World Bee Day is observed annually to raise awareness on the critical role bees and other pollinators play in ensuring food production, preserving biodiversity, and maintaining ecosystem health across the world.

BUDLEIN, Nimbe Adedipe Library Train Over 100 School Librarians in Ogun State

The Budding Leaders Empowerment Initiative (BUDLEIN), in collaboration with the Nimbe Adedipe Library, recently organised a capacity-building training programme for school librarians and teacher-librarians across Ogun State.

Speaking at the event, the University Librarian, Prof. Abayomi Owolabi, emphasised the critical role of functional school libraries in fostering a strong reading culture among pupils. AGRECOFARM Cohort 2.0 Empowers Climate-Smart Farmers

The AGRECOFARM Vocational Education Training Cohort 2.0 has successfully empowered participants with practical knowledge and skills in climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices during the just-concluded training programme held at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

The Two-Day vocational training programme on Agroecology and Sustainable Food Production, which held from May 13 to 14, 2026, was organised in response to growing concerns over food insecurity, climate change, declining soil fertility, and the increasing demand for sustainable food production systems across Nigeria and Africa.

The training brought together farmers, students, agripreneurs, extension officers, and agricultural professionals for intensive practical sessions focusing on hydroponics, soilless farming systems, composting, integrated pest management, crop nutrition, and effective farm management techniques.

Speaking during the programme, the Team Lead of the AGRECOFARM Project, Prof. Adewale Dipeolu, stressed the urgent need for innovative and sustainable farming systems capable of addressing present-day food production challenges.

According to him, modern agriculture can no longer depend solely on traditional farming methods due to changing climate conditions, environmental degradation, and the increasing demand for food. He noted that farmers must embrace climate-smart technologies and sustainable solutions to remain productive and competitive.

Prof. Dipeolu explained that the training programme was conceived as a practical intervention aimed at equipping participants with relevant skills, innovative approaches, and modern agricultural knowledge capable of enhancing productivity, profitability, and environmental sustainability.

He further disclosed that AGRECOFARM remained committed to bridging the gap between conventional agriculture and modern sustainable farming systems through practical exposure to hydroponics, nutrient management, composting, integrated pest management, and effective farm management practices.

The Team Lead emphasised that the future of agriculture lies in innovation, sustainability, and knowledge-driven farming systems, while encouraging participants to apply the knowledge gained within their farms, businesses, and communities to improve food production and environmental protection.

Earlier in her Welcome Address, the Programme Coordinator, Dr. Folasade Oke, appreciated participants and facilitators for their commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and youth participation in agribusiness. She described the initiative as a timely intervention aimed at addressing critical challenges confronting agriculture and food production systems in the country.

Dr. Oke further noted that the programme adopted an 80 percent practical and learner-friendly approach, allowing participants to engage directly in demonstrations and hands-on activities within an inclusive, non-examination learning environment that encouraged active participation, practical understanding, and knowledge sharing among participants.

PRESS RELEASE

Abuja Liaison Office: FUNAAB Recovers ₦27 Million Through EFCC Intervention, Reaffirms Commitment to Accountability

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of institutional resources following the successful recovery of ₦27 million paid for the lease of a property intended to serve as the University’s Liaison Office and Guest House in Abuja.

The development has also helped to correct erroneous impressions in some quarters suggesting any form of corrupt practice on the part of the University, as records have shown that the institution diligently pursued the matter through legitimate legal and administrative channels for several years.

The transaction dated back to 2011 during the administration of former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, when the University sought to acquire a property in Abuja to function as a Liaison Office, while also serving as a Guest House to generate revenue for the institution.

It was gathered that although the property was initially considered for outright purchase at a cost of approximately ₦300 million, the University, due to financial constraints at the time, opted instead for a rental arrangement approved by the Governing Council. Consequently, Mr. Segun Okeowo of Royal Caretaker handling the property secured a one-year lease agreement for ₦27 million on behalf of the University.

However, upon payment and subsequent attempts by the University to take possession of the property, it was discovered that the same property had allegedly been handed over to another party, thereby denying the University access despite the payment already made. Determined to protect its resources and institutional integrity, FUNAAB instituted legal action on the matter. The University eventually secured victory at the High Court, affirming its rightful claim in the dispute. Nonetheless, the property owner proceeded to the Court of Appeal, resulting in prolonged litigation and delays that spanned several years.

The matter later came under further scrutiny during one of the Federal Government’s Visitation Panels and investigative exercises, where the case was identified as a recoverable transaction requiring additional intervention. This subsequently attracted the attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which commenced a detailed investigation into the matter.

Following nearly two years of sustained efforts and investigation by the anti-graft agency, the EFCC successfully recovered the ₦27 million from Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Salik and others involved and remitted the funds back to the University’s account in April 2026.

The University Management has commended the EFCC for its professionalism, persistence, and commitment to ensuring the recovery of the funds after over a decade of legal and administrative processes. Management also noted that the development further demonstrates the effectiveness of institutional collaboration in safeguarding public resources and promoting accountability.

FUNAAB has reiterated that the recovered funds stand as evidence of the University’s steadfastness, due process, and determination to protect public assets, while assuring stakeholders of its continued dedication to transparency, responsible governance, and institutional excellence.
