*AN OPEN LETTER TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA MANAGEMENT AND THE ELECTORAL COMMITTEE OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ON THE CANCELLATION OF THE 2024 ALUMNI ELECTIONS*..BY COLLINS OGBU

I bring you warm greetings.

My name is Collins Ogbu. I hold a BSc, MSc, LLB and PhD (in view) from the University of Abuja. I am a Super Alumnus of the University by the virtue of the many degrees I have acquired from her. I am also a veritable stakeholder in the life of the Alumni Association, having served as the immediate past National Assistant Secretary General of the Association.

Assuming you're in doubt, I write to let you know that the University of Abuja Alumni Association is an independent body corporate duly incorporated by the Corporate Affairs Commission. It is not subject to the University of Abuja Management neither is the latter a member of the Board of the Association. In fact, the highest decision making organ of the association is the CONGRESS and the University of Abuja is not a member of the Congress. In matters requiring critical attention and urgency, the CONGRESS or the Board (and not the UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA MANAGEMENT) reserves a duty to act on behalf of the association and in _uberrima fides_.

Having established this, I pen down this note to let you know that the recent cancellation of the University of Abuja Alumni Elections by the University Management (and not the CONGRESS, as it should be) has sparked significant and unnecessary controversy and debate. The official reasoning provided for this decision was based on purported claims of insecurity by the University Management. However, this justification raises serious concerns regarding undue interference in the affairs of the Alumni Association, as well as questions about the competence, impartiality, and potential corruption within the electoral committee.

Having carefully perused through the press release by the BOT claiming to have disbanded the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association,
I wish to state as follows:
1. The BOT did not send a notice of its meeting to me.
2. The BOT did not hold any meeting as claimed and no notice of such meeting was sent to the president or any exco. Rather a "stake-holders" meeting was organized by the University Management and the Alumni Relations office.
3. The BOT cannot exercise powers it does not have
4. The VC would not attend a BOT meeting as the VC is not a member of the BOT. The VC attended the stakeholders meeting where the purported disbandment took place
4. The BOT should make the Constitution of the Association available for members to read.
5. I have met the BOT severally on the need to work as a team but they wanted me to do the unthinkable which I refused
6.The allegations levied against me and the Exco. are frivolous and baseless. we have records of our activities
This illegality shall fall like a pack of cards. I urge all our members to disregard the illegality as we explore the instrumentality of the law to check the excesses of few individuals who intend to run the Association as their estate
7. We shall seek the interpretation of the court on whether or not 'stakeholders' can disband elected officers of the Association.

PRESS RELEASE

Felicitations and warm greetings my fellow Alumni members from me and my amiable Executive council members. It is with immense pleasure that i officially welcome us all to this official information hub and platform which became necessary because of the high demands from our huge members base to be kept abreast with activities of it's pioneer elected executive members.
The journey so far had not been easy, as expected, being the pioneers of the Alumni executive we came through difficult times to be finally here.

Our mandate amongst other, was to establish a working structure for the Alumni, establish a network of members and connect with each other for the common growth and development of all our members and our Alma mater. Also we have remained determined to pan out a convenient means of revenue generation, keep tap on development within the school and inform members of same.

It pleases me to now inform you that, we have a draft constitution, which will soon be presented to the Congress for adoption.
The executive are close to ensuring a steady revenue inflow for the administration of association and benefits of members.
We have also finalize on the building plan of the Alumni secretariat complex and the management has approved a temporary allocation of land for the Alumni complex.

The Alumni also has a robust interactive website that is currently undergoing upgrade thus as to create a befitting website of international standard that suits our prestigious association.

You can recall, distinguished Alumni members, that the huddle hitherto been experienced in certificate collection is gradually becoming a thing of the past. This was as a result of demands from us that has made swift the collection process because we have maintained close oversight on the office of the University of Abuja registrar.

Lastly, we would be engaging in some projects and programmes that will be unveiled soon via this platform, thus we wish to urge us all to continue
