Celebrating World Blood Donor Day: A Message from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science
Dear Staff, Students, and the Lugbe College Community,
Today, June 14th, the global community comes together to celebrate World Blood Donor Day. This yearβs theme reminds us of a fundamental truth: every single blood donation is a precious story of a life saved, a family kept whole, and a community strengthened.
As Medical Laboratory Scientists and Technicians, we see the critical reality behind these donations every single day. We are the ones who work behind the scenesβtyping, cross-matching, and screening units to ensure that when a patient faces an emergency, a safe lifeline is ready for them. From the laboratory bench to the bedside, we know that safe blood saves lives.
However, the supply only exists because of the selfless individuals who choose to roll up their sleeves.
On behalf of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science at College of Medical Sciences, Lugbe,FCT Abuja, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to all voluntary, unpaid blood donors. Your generosity keeps the heart of our healthcare system beating.
To our brilliant students and dedicated staff: let us continue to lead by example. Beyond our academic and professional duties, let us advocate for regular donation, debunk the myths surrounding blood safety in our communities, and give voluntarily whenever we can.
Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often.
Happy World Blood Donor Day!
Warm regards,
MLS A.A Egba
Head of Department, Medical Laboratory Science
College of Medical Sciences Lugbe, Abuja.
