Senator Ali Ndume’s Representative Visits NAUB on Proposed NADDC Automotive Training Centre

The representative of Hon. Senator Ali Ndume and Senior Legistilative Aid to Alh. Shehu Usman Aliyu and other legistilative Aids has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) to discuss plans for the establishment of a National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) Automotive Training Centre at the University. The essence of the visit is to seek the collaboration of the University Management for the formal preparations for the take-off of the centre.

The DVC Administration Prof. Audu A Balami representing the VC received the delegation. He expressed the University’s readiness to support the initiative, noting that NAUB has competent personnel and the necessary academic expertise to contribute to the successful establishment and operation of the centre, particularly through the Faculty of Engineering. He commended and appreciated the efforts and contributions of the Hon. Senator the University, Biu and the Southern Borno in general.

The Senior Legistilative Aid Alh. Shehu Usman Aliyu announced Senator Ndume's commitment to ensuring that the project is strategically located and structured to serve not only students of the Nigerian Army University but also members of the Borno state and the Northeast Nigeria.

The Automotive Centre has already received the necessary approval, while the engagement with the university was aimed at securing a suitable location that would enable the institution and the general public to benefit from its facilities and opportunities, he emphasized.
Hon Shehu Usman Aliyu further disclosed that funding challenges had contributed to the delay in completing the NAUB hostel project. He expressed optimism that renewed collaboration with the University would facilitate its completion. He also announced that Senator Ndume is proposing for the construction of additional hostel facilities at Command Day Secondary School, Biu, with the aim of transforming the school to a boarding school. The objective is to expand access to quality education and conducive accommodation facilities for students from neighbouring local government areas such as Bayo, Kwaya Kusar, Shani and Hawul.

In his remarks, Brig Gen OJ Ariyo (rtd) noted that NAUB has adequate land to accommodate the proposed NADDC Automotive Training Centre. He advocated for the facility to be sited in an accessible location that would serve both residents of Biu and NAUB students. He also appealed to Senator Ndume to prioritise the completion of the hostel project, stressing its importance to the welfare of students and the development of the University.

The Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Abba A. Hammajan, expressed the Faculty’s readiness to provide the technical expertise required for the establishment of the centre. He noted that the University has the requisite human resources and technical capacity to support the initiative. According to him, the centre would not only benefit people in the North-East but could also attract individuals from other parts of the country who are interested in acquiring automotive skills. He commended Senator Ndume for proposing the initiative for establishment at NAUB.

Also speaking, Mr. Kachalla Mishelia, representing the Director of procurement, appealed to the Senator’s representative to support the University’s efforts by engaging the appropriate authorities to facilitate the prompt release of outstanding funds from the Accountant-General of the Federation. He said the release of the funds before the end of September would enhance efforts towards completing the hostel and postgraduate building.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor reiterated the University’s appeal for the completion of the hostel project, noting that the hostel and proposed NADDC Automotive Training Centre would provide lasting benefits to NAUB students, Biu youths and the wider community.
