NAUB WELCOMES KWAYA KUSAR EDUCATION SECRETARY AND JSS PUPILS ON EDUCATIONAL FIELD TRIP

The Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) On June 30, 2026, hosted pupils from Junior Secondary School (JSS) for an educational field trip. The university's Deputy Vice-Chancellors warmly received the delegation at the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences conference hall on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor.

The Education Secretary (ES) of Kwaya Kusar and leader of the delegation, Dr. Salihu Alhaji Ibrahim, expressed his deep appreciation for the warm reception. He sought a strategic partnership with NAUB to further regional educational development.
"The essence of this trip is to expose these pupils to a university environment and inspire them to pursue higher education," Dr. Ibrahim remarked. Reiterating that education does not end at the primary or secondary level, he reminded the pupils, "You are the future leaders." He further urged them to remain dedicated to their studies and work hard to achieve their dreams.

In his opening remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Abubakar Alkasim, encouraged the pupils to study hard, emphasizing the lifelong value and transformative opportunities that higher education provides.

Speaking on career guidance, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Audu Ayuba Balami, advised the students to begin thinking critically about their future paths. "You must make informed career choices at this stage and pursue them with strong determination. There are many different career paths, and you must decide where you want to see yourselves in the future," he said. He also warned them to avoid social vices and maintain strict focus on their academic journeys.

Representing the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. O. Christopher Sunday (Head of Department, Political Science), spoke on the foundational values of higher education. He emphasized that true education is built on character, responsibility, integrity, accountability, respect, and trust. He urged the pupils to imbibe a culture of excellence, courage, and responsiveness throughout their secondary and tertiary education. "Degrees are awarded based on both learning and character. As future leaders, you must be trustworthy and men of integrity," Dr. Sunday added.

Following the briefing, the pupils were taken on a guided tour of the faculty library, the Biology and Physics laboratories, and the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The tour was facilitated by Dr. Essien Benjamin (HOD, Biology), Dr. Sarkin Aska, and Mr. Japhet Pukuma.

NAUB SENATE ELECTS TWO DVCs AT 4TH SPECIAL SENATE MEETINGS

The Senate of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) convened its 4th Special Meeting on Thursday, May 21, 2026, to elect two Deputy Vice-Chancellors (DVCs) to the institution's leadership structure.

In his opening address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lawan Bala Buratai, disclosed that the meeting was called with a single agenda: filling the vacant DVC positions. Professor Buratai, who assumed office exactly one year ago, noted that he has managed the institution's affairs without deputies since his inception. He highlighted a structural timeline issue within the university's governance, pointing out a tenure disparity: while a Vice-Chancellor serves a five-year term, Deputy Vice-Chancellors serve a four-year tenure. This gap, he explained, often leads to overlapping departures when a Vice-Chancellor’s term ends.

The selection process initially featured four prominent professors nominated and paired for the two available seats: Professor Ayuba Audu Balami, Professor Lawan Bukar Inuwa, Professor Alkasim Abubakar, and Professor Fatima Kubuli Mohammed.

Following deliberations, the field narrowed after Professor Lawan Bukar Inuwa and Professor Fatima Kubuli Mohammed voluntarily withdrew from the race. Their withdrawal cleared the path for their respective counterparts to emerge unopposed.

Consequently, Professor Ayuba Audu Balami and Professor Alkasim Abubakar emerged as the DVC-designates. Their appointments, however, remain provisional and are subject to final approval by the University Governing Council.

*NAUB Faculty of Social Sciences Conducts Orientation for New and Returning Students*

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) held a comprehensive orientation programme for both newly admitted and returning students on Tuesday, 17th February 2026, at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre.

In his opening address, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Kolawole Subair, outlined essential academic procedures, including registration protocols, course administration, and the faculty’s official communication channels. He urged students to remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence and to utilize the university’s robust support structures.
A significant portion of the Dean’s address focused on the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). He encouraged students to take advantage of this Federal Government initiative introduced under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
> "The NELFUND scheme is designed to provide critical financial support, covering tuition and providing upkeep allowances," Prof. Subair explained. He advised students to familiarize themselves with the application requirements to ensure their academic progression remains uninterrupted by financial constraints.

Discipline and Campus Conduct
The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Emmanuel Lante Balami, addressed the gathering on the importance of character. He emphasized that adherence to the University’s code of conduct and responsible social behavior are just as vital as academic performance. "Discipline is the foundation of success," Dr. Balami noted, reminding students of their role in maintaining the institution’s reputation.

Heads of Departments provided specialized insights to guide students through their specific disciplines:
* Geography: Dr. O. S. Afolayan detailed the course structures and the high academic expectations of the department.
* Political Science: Dr. Chris S. Ologunowa highlighted research opportunities and the necessity of strict compliance with departmental regulations.
* Sociology: Dr. Cletus A. Lanshima provided a roadmap for program requirements and graduation pathways.
* Economics: Representing the Head of Department (Major Dr. A. A. Mohammed), Mrs. Ene briefed students on academic standards and the diverse career opportunities within the field of Economics.

To ensure students remain in good standing, the Faculty Examination Officer, Mr. Harir Adamu Isah, conducted a technical session on university regulations. Key topics included:
* The mandatory use of Student ID cards.
* Strict attendance requirements for exam eligibility.
* CGPA computation and academic standing.
* The ethical implications of examination malpractice.

NAUB MATRICULATES 1,166 STUDENTS FOR 2025/2026 SESSION; VC REITERATES ZERO TOLERANCE FOR MISCONDUCT

The Vice Chancellor of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), Professor Lawan Bala Buratai, has officially welcomed 1,166 new students into the university’s academic community for the 2025/2026B session.
The matriculation ceremony marks the formal transition of candidates into bona fide students following their successful admission through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

In his keynote address, Prof. Buratai congratulated the matriculants while delivering a firm charge regarding the university’s code of conduct. Emphasizing that the institution remains a bastion of discipline, he reaffirmed a "Zero Tolerance" policy toward social vices.
"I strongly advise all matriculants to shun all forms of social vices, including cultism, indecent dressing, examination malpractice, sexual misconduct, and fraudulent acts," the Vice Chancellor stated. He further urged students to follow official protocols by engaging their Level Coordinators for all academic and administrative grievances.

A critical safety directive was issued regarding the Zur Waterfall, located within the university. Recalling a tragic drowning incident involving a student last year, Prof. Buratai officially designated the area as a restricted zone. "I am calling on all fresh students: stay away from Zur Waterfall. It is strictly off-limits," he cautioned.

Prof. Buratai highlighted NAUB’s trajectory toward becoming a world-class institution, announcing several key developments:
Plans are underway to launch the School of Postgraduate Studies and a School of Basic Studies, which will offer IJMB, Diplomas, and Certificate programs.
To address accommodation challenges, a new female hostel will soon be ready for allocation to both returning and fresh students.

The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed that "duty, dedication, and punctuality" remain the pillars of his administration.

A total of 1,166 students were matriculated across six faculties:

In a somber moment, the Vice Chancellor led the assembly in a minute of silence for Prof. Abubakar M. El-Jummah, who was tragically killed. He expressed his deepest condolences to the family and the entire university community.

The Acting Registrar, Lt. Col. OS Job, administered the matriculation oath. He encouraged the students to remain focused on excellence and to uphold the core values upon which NAUB was founded.

The ceremony concluded with the Vice Chancellor thanking staff, parents, and the public for their unwavering support in positioning NAUB as a leading institution both in Nigeria and globally.

DEATH ANNOUNCEMENT/ CONDOLENCES

INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAYHI RAJI'UN.
With total submission to the will of Almighty Allah (S.W.T), the Council, the Management, Staff, and Students of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) announce the death of Professor Abubakar Mohammed El-jummah.

Professor El-jummah passed away after a brief illness. It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge he passed away while in the captivity of insurgents, having been abducted a year ago.

We pray that Almighty Allah (S.W.T) forgives his shortcomings, accepts his martyrdom, and grants him Jannatul Firdausi.

May Allah swt grant his family and the entire university community the fortitude to bear this profound loss.

NAUB LEADERSHIP RECEIVES TBIWP DELEGATION, EXPLORES COLLABORATION AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT

The Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Military) and Acting Registrar of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) recently received a delegation from the Tukur Buratai Institute for War and Peace (TBIWP) on a congratulatory courtesy visit.
The NAUB principal officers, Acting DVC (Military), Colonel AY Bello, and Acting Registrar, Lieutenant Colonel OS Job, warmly welcomed the team from the University’s specialized institute. The visit was initiated by the civilian staff of TBIWP in honour of the newly appointed officers.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Major S. Iordye, representing the Director General of TBIWP, Brigadier General Dadan Garba (Rtd), stated that the visit reflected the staff’s commitment to the University’s leadership and their readiness to contribute meaningfully to its development.
Delivering the staff’s congratulatory message, Mr. Kabiru Kala described the appointments as well-deserved and reaffirmed TBIWP staff’s dedication to supporting the University’s goals and objectives. He also appealed to Management for increased sponsorship opportunities for staff to attend workshops and training programmes, noting that capacity building remains critical to effective service delivery.
In his response, Colonel AY Bello expressed appreciation for the gesture and assured the delegation that their requests would be given fair consideration within the broader needs of the University. He encouraged staff to continue contributing ideas toward NAUB’s growth and called for sustained cooperation and support.
The Acting Registrar, Lieutenant Colonel OS Job, described the visit as an honour and assured the delegation that their concerns would be reviewed. Reflecting on his previous seven-month service at TBIWP, he noted that the visit rekindled fond memories of a strong and cordial working relationship, and expressed his desire to sustain such collaboration.
Highlights of the visit included the presentation of souvenirs to the two principal officers and a group photograph.
