OFFICIAL RESPONSE TO THE MISLEADING PUBLICATION BY ENGR. OLOGE SOLOMON OCHUKO
The attention of the Management of Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu has been drawn to an online publication by Engr. Ologe Solomon Ochuko titled "A Word of Caution for Prospective Students & Parents," in which he questions the accreditation status of programmes offered by the institution and suggests that the Polytechnic's admission advertisement is misleading.
Ordinarily, the institution would not have dignified such a publication with a response. However, in the interest of prospective students, parents, stakeholders, and the general public, it has become necessary to clarify the facts and correct the misleading impressions created by the publication.
First, Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu, remains one of Nigeria's foremost specialised maritime institutions, established to produce highly skilled manpower for the maritime sector. Since its establishment, the Polytechnic has continued to distinguish itself through quality training, industry relevance, and academic excellence, producing graduates who are making meaningful contributions within and outside Nigeria.
Engr. Ologe's publication attempts to discredit that narrative and create the false impression that the institution's programmes are not accredited /approved. This is inaccurate and does not reflect the true position of things. To set the record straight, our courses are accredited/approved by NBTE.
It is also pertinent to provide the necessary background for members of the public that Engr. Ologe Solomon was formerly a staff of Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu. He was employed as a technician and later converted to lecturing where he even rose to the position of the Dean, school of Engineering. He was granted study leave after duly executing a bond with the institution, undertaking to return and serve the Polytechnic upon the successful completion of his studies.
However, upon completing his Masters and Ph.D programmes, in France and Spain Engr. Ologe failed to honour the terms of the bond by resuming his duties with the institution. After waiting for a considerable period without any indication of his intention to return, the institution, in accordance with its policies and the terms of the bond, discontinued the payment of his salary.
Since then, Engr. Ologe has repeatedly published materials aimed at discrediting the institution, petitioning the institution to EFCC, ICPC, NBTE and other relevant crime fighting agencies.
Members of the public are therefore advised to treat any publications or statements emanating from him concerning Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu, with caution, as they appear to be driven by a personal grievance and malicious rather than an objective presentation of facts. The public is encouraged to rely on only information issued through the official channels of the institution.
Regarding his demand that the Polytechnic publicly display its accreditation/approval documents, it is important to state that the institution is under no obligation to publish its official regulatory documents in response to every unfounded allegation circulated on social media. The Polytechnic conducts its affairs in accordance with the requirements of the relevant regulatory authorities and remains accountable to those statutory bodies. Official records are maintained through the appropriate institutional and regulatory channels, and the institution will not reduce official administrative processes to a social media debate.
Prospective students and parents are hereby assured that Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu, remains committed to academic excellence, quality assurance, and the continuous development of manpower for Nigeria's maritime industry and her courses are all accredited /approved.
It is also worthy to note that the institution has over time produced students who have emerged best maritime students in Nigeria in various categories of their competitions and most recent is Miss. USEN EMAEDIONG AKPAN who emerged overall best in Maritime Transport students essay competition 2025 and also overall best in the female category, and this can only be possible through the very competent hands available for training in the institution.
The Management appreciates the confidence reposed in the institution by students, parents, alumni, industry partners, and the general public, and reiterates its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of technical and maritime education.
